Hi guy new to overclocking and watercoolers.
I bought a H80i as a starter (very cool) but my temps on idle are between 0 > 10 degrees, is that normal:confused:

CPU - AMD FX 4170 idles at 1.4 and throttles at 4.2

i ran prime 95 for 3hrs and temps stable at 33 with quite fan
Everything is connected correctly (triple checked)

Thanks

Corsair monitor , HWMonitor and AMDs overdrive all giving the same reading

What on the HWMonitor is indicating your CPU temp?

I think it's the TMPIN1 which is the CPU one. The actual one for the CPU (CPU Temperature) is incorrect as mine is the same and says it idle's @ 4-8 degree's.

AMD's temperature monitoring is very different to other CPUs. A quote from one of my older posts below explaining:
About the AMD core temps: they are calculated from a formula, based off the temperature sensor under the socket (socket temp) and current load/operations.

It gets more accurate the closer it gets to 46 degrees C (and over.) That's why it will read lower than ambient temps at idle. Apparently the thermal shutdown for the chip is based off this temperature.
I also have the H80i and get very low load temps from it. Highest I have seen it was 45 degrees and that was after running Prime on an 8350, with the fans on low.
