Anyone using the H80i with Windows 8.1?

I installed it last night out to find out corsair link doesn't supports Windows 8.1. After a quick Google I found a registry edit. Looks like it is now working. Anyone else done this setup, just not ideal having to edit the registry in my eyes and wondered if the H80i is now working as it should be.

Also, does anyone think the H80i is still kinda loud? After the registry edit it's allowed me to put the fans into 'Quiet Mode' but it's still kinda loud in my eyes (or to my ears should i say).

Yeah I had the same issue with the Corsair link software. Software appeared to work fine after the registry fix was applied.

Are you using the standard fan? I got ****ed off with the noise that my h100i was making & ended up replacing the fans with 4 Noctua PF-12's, (in push/pull config) couldn't hear it after that unless I ramped the fans up to 100%

If the noise bothers you too much, try & track down a quiet PWM fan

Thanks mate,

I just don't feel comfortable with software that needs a reg edit to make it work properly. Hopefully it's all cool though.

Think i'm going to add some SP120's so I can mod the rings in an orange colour for my build. Hopefully the 'quiet' series live up to their name!

Anyone with a H80i.. do you plug the fans into the CPU fan header?

I followed instructions that said 'insert into any fan header' so didn't plug them into CPU fan but now i'm wasting a fan slot. Or can the CPU fan be used for anything?

If it's the same as the H100i there should be a lead that connects to the side of the pump unit to connect a pair of PWM fans to.

I connected my fans to that and let Corsair link control the fan speed

Yep, that's the same mate. Y cable for 2 fans that then goes into the pump. There is another wire though that then goes into a fan header. I think it might be to manage the pump im not sure now.

There should be a single wire that has a fan header connector on it, that's just for reporting pump RPM back to the motherboard

You should also have a mini-USB to internal USB header that allows you to manage the unit via Corsair Link

Sounds about right then mate. So im correct in saying the CPU fan header does not get used for H80i and H100i?

If this is the case (Which i suspect it is as im not using it, instead a random fan head) can i use the CPU fan header as a random fan header or will it not work?

Hopefully the 'quiet' series live up to their name!

I have two AF140 "Quiets" on my case and they don't live up to their name...

The Noctuas are definitely quieter, but they are also brown and ugly...

Till Noctua put out some decent fan colours I'm sticking with Corsair fans.

The CPU header that is on the H100i and H80i is to plug in to "trick" the motherboard into thinking a fan is attached. A small number of motherboards wont POST without a CPU fan plugged in to protect the processor.

You can use the CPU fan header for any fan you want anywhere in your case. But it may throttle based on the temp of your CPU, based on your motherboard and settings.

Thanks mate.

Well mine isnt in use due to H80 and I boot fine. Best not to use it then for a standard fan by sounds of it and leave it empty. I'm sure I have enough headers regardless. Was just wondering.

Is there an easy way to set up the H80 via corsair link to vary speed due to temperature or is it all done manually? Currently just have it set on 'quiet' mode.

I'd much rather keep the cpu_fan header for the pump unit, so if the pump fails you still get that in-built protection. That's the reason Corsair recommend it that way. It's a lot more than just a 'trick'.

You're saying insert pump cable into cpu fan header? Im sure corsair instructions were to put in a random fan header so i chose not the cpu and any fan header.

Yerp, should that pump fan cable be plugged into the cpu fan header then or any fan header? At the moment i don't have it in cpu header and just have it in a random fan header and pc works fine. Just wondering if this is right as it seems bizarre to have cpu fan header with nothing in it.

It's just the recommended way, and the method I've always used. If there's fan failure protection on another header then I wouldn't say don't use that header. Just seems the sensible way is the recommeded way because of the protection it gives.

The only reason the pump isn't powered from the header is the combined current draw of one pump plus two fans.

So what is the recommended way you are saying mate?

1) Use CPU Fan Header for H80i pump
2) Use any fan header for H80i pump (What corsair say I believe - They didn't say 'Use CPU Fan Header' for sure)

You can totally do away with the connection if you want. It's only for your own protection. Raises one question in my mind, does the link software pick up readings from other headers as I've never tried that.

I stand corrected. The revised instruction do indeed say any 3 pin header. Gonna dig out my old instruction book and put the page up. I do defo recommend a header with protection for sure.
