H80i & Windows 8.1

I stand corrected. The revised instruction do indeed say any 3 pin header. Gonna dig out my old instruction book and put the page up. I do defo recommend a header with protection for sure.

No idea if my fan headers have protection. What sort of benefits / protection would I get my plugging it into CPU fan header then?

Be interesting to hear from other H80i users where their pump wire is going.

We're not getting confused with the old H80/H100 are we. That had the full 3 wires to the fan header for power and the rpm. H80i/H100i draw power from the SATA.

It's been a while but iirc on the H80/H100's you had to disable fan speed control in the bios to provide the full 12V constantly to the fan header??

as for benefits your system will tell you via beeps if the pump fails long before the cpu overheats.

Remeber this is on MY recommendation. It's not one of the ten commandments. ;)

What motherboard is it? Most often just the cpu_fan header and the first sys_fan header have this protection. Like I said earlier you can do away with that connection totally if you want. We all have the freedom to choose, and we all have our ways.

If corsair provide the cable to plug in somewhere, i'd rather plug it in lol. Works fine in current system fan header though.

Wondering if was meant to be in CPU Fan header though / if it would work there. That way it frees up a Sys Fan header for me to use.

If you have no plans for the cpu_fan header then use it. May as well benefit from the protection. Especially if you have a use for the sys_fan header

also if you plan to use the CL software it may not see the pump_rpm on anything but the cpu_fan header. I've never used anything else so I can't say for sure the software wouldn't work on another header.

What hasn't helped you is the fact that Corsair only provide a 'Quick install' manual and not everything you need to know.

been running my on a sys fan header for 6 months without issue, plugged it in by mistake on only realised one the h80i was installed, its blocked out the cpu header - i've been too lazy to take the h80i off and swap the connection around - I will probably do it when I do some research on quieter fans, but just isn't a priority

Yer it works fine on a sys fan header. Corsair link shows pump rpm etc. I could really do with the top fan header though. It will look nice cable wise if a i use cpu header too i think.

Going to take some pictures for my build log on weekend I think so will swap connections round and see how it goes.

I tried plugging pump into cpu fan header and it works... will keep it in there for the extra protection which also frees up a sys fan header. Thanks chaps.
