I'm getting increasingly hacked off with driving to work everyday. As is becomming increasingly common (i.e. nearly everyday) some idiot on the M3 had an accident.
Sorry for the lack of sympathy, but I've seen too many minor shunts through lack of concentration which wreck everyones trip - its really getting on my nerves.
Id have more sympathy if it looked serious.

The result is it took me an hour to do 15 miles - average speed 15mph!
I think I put my foot down once in the whole trip.
Half an hour late to work - nice!

What's it going to be like in 10-20 years? It'll be impossible to drive anywhere - either there will be so much traffic on the roads we wont be able to move, or itll be so expensive it'll be pointless anyway.

We're all here because we like driving, but at what point does the cost in money and time become too much!?

/rant over!

You lucky lucky *******, oh what I'd give to cover 15 miles in an hour.

Try 8 miles in 50 mins then you can moan.

Too many idiots on the motorway now / people who don't know how to drive, taking the motorway to work would cost me less in fuel each day but i value my time more so take the back roads :)

I asked myself that 10-15 years ago and the answer is: terrible. It is much more congested now than when I started driving and it wasn't exactly great then either. And it's only gonna get worse with a rising population, and a woefully inadequate programme of roadbuilding and maintenance.

I also get wound up by driving nowadays - it is rarely a pleasure and you can drive for miles without ever even getting into fourth, never mind fifth.

You need to try to cool down whilst driving and learn to chill out a bit more. After all, there's nothing you can do to influence the events around you.
Can I suggest buying something slow and ultra comfortable like a Rover 75 with full leather and climate, then listening to something soothing whilst relaxing in the armchair your sat in. I used to find that it worked.

That's a good point, but I was rather chilled. I find my car comfy and I wasnt indulging in the lane changing shinanigans that a lot of people were.

Infact its funny how irate some BMW drivers get despite the fact they are in a comfy car.
However, I dont have a stereo in my car yet, I think Ill order one ASAP so I can put on some music, as you say, it will help :)

thats the reason why i quit my last job, took me atleast an hour each way (took me 2 and a half once) and i was just getting fed up with the traffic, the crashes and the road works. now i have a 5 min drive which i tend to walk now and it feels great :)

I'm quite lucky now. The A47 is about 1/2 mile away from my house then its A47, A11 then a nice stretch of pretty much deserted B road and I'm at work. I can do bang on the speed limit all the way

My old route to work [EDIT-when we were at the old office] meant I had to deal with the joys of the "Acle Straight" every morning. 7 miles of solid traffic, when it did start to flow freely some tool would decide that they would overtake, obviously everyone is travelling too close and they dive into a non existant gap. Cue a mexican wave of brakelights which ends up with the traffic half a mile back coming to a complete standstill. If your lucky someone might even bump the car in front up the backside and you get to sit in traffic for half an hour whilst they blow it out of all proportion and insist on calling the police before moving their cars. SOOOO glad I don't have to deal with that anymore :p

Im lucky in that i dont need to use the motorway to get to work, although i could if i had too. However i still see atleast 2 idiots every day that i usually have to end up taking some avoiding action. It gets me angry that idiots are allowed to drive.

I usually end up going for a latenight drive to relieve some stress and to regain my love for driving.

Motorways are simple beasts, leave early enough and you avoid the traffic (bar accidents). Leave at the time everyone else wants to leave at and you meet traffic.

I hate traffic so in practice this means that I tend to get up very early.

Ahh the problems of modern day society.. There is no manual for how to fix this so it's a case of make more rules, throw more cash at it until they find a soltution to fix the growing congestion problems of today. As time goes by there will be more and more problems like this as nobody knows exactly how to fix it because there are just too many things to take into account.

Anti-grav technology might help for this in future, get all the lorries on the road and the cars hover above :D

Sounds like fun to me :p

Ahh the joys of motor-cycling, no traffic jams, even the plod pull over so you can pass them :)

I had the same problem as you. I had a solution though.
