Hacked website - police?

Hi,

What can be done if a website is hacked? Do the police care? What are the options?

I have FTP logs, an IP address and from this have the persons ISP.

Report to hacker's ISP.

Restore back-up.

Review and increase security.

Yeah backups all sorted and security. It's for a client, advised them to contact the abuse email for the ISP and go to the police. SHould have everything they need to track them.

I don't think they would do much, There isp will send a warning letter out, If he has done it before he could be chucked off!

Police won't care unless personal/financial information has been stolen and then if that was the case you might be held responsible if your security was found to be lax.

Plus the chances of you having the real IP is pretty low.
Best bet is just to find out how s/he got in and fix the problem.
