Did a couple things on the four, first of all I removed the resonator on the airbox, now these things are known to be useless power strangling noise reducers... but I was shocked.

see those little holes? thats how the air gets into the intake!

and heres the top end that goes to the filter.

and I painted my calipers black! (When i can be bothered I'll highlight the lettering in white)

couple hours fun today, and tomorrow its time for the meguiars!

Love the black calipers! They look ace!

I didn't think resonators were supposed to take in air. I thought they were just to allow the air in the intake to swirl around a bit and dampen the noise. I removed mine on the 214 to increase the grunt... neither the 220 or 420 have them though.

I've been busy today too... started at 2pm, finished at 9pm. Stripped the front end of the car down to clean up the radiator and coolant hoses (manky cooling system on this car :(), fit a new thermostat housing and 'stat, new manifold gasket and hammerite various parts of the engine bay.

All good fun though.

Had to get a neighbour to help push the car onto the drive, so as you can guess, more work to be done tomorrow.

nope, that resonator box's outlet is to the bottom of the airbox, there is no other way air gets into the engine.

I want to detail the "CELICA" in white, but i really couldn't be arsed ;)

if memory serves those little holes are to let any water out (takes far less then you think to hydrolock) and reduce possible vacuum under certain conditions.

tis the weather for fiddling. just got my mini running again, now to figure out how to tax it again from being sorn for 6 months.

and todays update - meguiars 3 stage and i'm completely knackered.

ignore the gazebo, it was so i could do it in the sun ;)

That's exactly what they are for. I doubt you could even get the engine to idle through holes that big!

I can't see any other route into the engine before the air filter thou...

Hate sell me your car, I want I want. It is only missing the large rear spoiler. ;)

the large spoiler is rubbish :p

We had an exactly the same thread on Rovertech about a GT4 and those holes.

Go look at a throttle body and the size of it.

If the engine did intake all the aoir through those holes it would not run, pretty soon after starting the resonator would crumple in on itself thanks to the vacuum in it.

Looks good. On the GTI6 forum people warn of removing the resonator on the 306 since it creates a swirl effect when air enters the TB or some other reason like that and people lost power without it.
