Took a corner and i lost all control it just slid straight off and into a steep ditch , brother was with me too. Bit of a panic , police came out checked me over!

Had witness's they reported that the car just slid off and i wasn't speeding , police saw it was all ok and let me get on with getting it out.

Car is back now , scrape on the front splitter , no bad damage to the sides , the arms and suspension all look in good condition. The undertrays collected a lot of mud though which covered my underneath handbreak cable.

So a good clean up is needed tomorrow , i was lucky :(

Mr2 Turbo...

Funny thing is the back end didn't slip out , the whole car did it was like driving on ice very wierd.

I'm ok thanks , a little bit shocked but it could've been far worse just abit further up was a concrete slab!

Unlucky, glad to hear you came out well from that incident, any idea what the cause was?

Numorus people living there said its a nasty slippery road always damp and muddy , thing is i've driven that road loads of times before never had a problem.

Have you driven that road loads of times in the winter? Not to sound too patronising but pretty much all roads are getting to be very slippery in this weather & low temperatures.

I've driven it with snow on the ground , i guess its just wrong place at the wrong time :o

I will say this though the Police are a utter waste of time!

The road needed closing so we contacted the police , they told us someone would be out. We waited and waited , again we called up and was told we'd be contacted. We waited and waited , the RAC man called up his HQ to the police to get them out and was told to wait. We had a phone call that a police car was on immediate dispatch.

2HRS passed and we got a call that no police cars were available , if it wasn't for the rac man and his mate blocking the road further down i'd still be stuck there. On the way back we passed TWO police cars in the area.

Car is completely cleaned up underside , wheels . No damage to wheels or sides , there is some slight scraping to the front splitter. No damage to any of the arms , ball joints e.t.c

Took the car for a drive to the local stores it handled ok no banging or drifting off , took the car up the dual carrageway and again it was ok. Braking was also good.

Very very lucky

I had a bit of a tank slapper the other day turning into a junction at about 15 miles an hour, if that. The back end just went. You really do have to be alert driving these things in the cold/ice when the roads are likely to be slippy.

Glad you and the car are ok and hats off to you for not using the old "diesel on the roads" excuse :p

I've had a few 'moments' this year too with roads I've travelled on for the last 3 years! Fortunately none of them have been uncontrollable but the roads are certainly greasier around this way than they were last year.

Hell, I have more confidence driving my wife's 1.4 Civic than I do the MR2 at the moment :(

I've not had any hairy moments with either of me MR2's yet, but I think that's largely down to the fact I drive like a crippled grandmother when there's even a hint of ice on the roads :p

Thats the thing i was driving like a crippled grandmother on that turning and it still went off :(

Driven the mr2 for 4+ years :p

Quite comforting in a way this thread for me. Recently got an MX-5, and is my first foray into small soft top rw-drive. Even in these wet conditions I rather naively thought I could travel around corners faster than my previous 1.9TDi hatchback (which is probably still true), but I often found it a little twitchy which I put down to inexperience and confidence.

Glad to find I'm not the only one slowing down in these conditions :p Still having fun though!

nearly had an off myself the other day, only at about 50mph but the back swung out big time with no warning then went back the other way when i overcorrected.the roads at this time of year are horrible, its all the wet/dry cycles that cause them to get really greasy.at this time of year i just take it nice and easy and wait for sunny weather to give it some beans

They sound very helpful around there :(

Roll on summer!

I can't wait for the summer. Hope its as good as Im imagining it to be in a rwd car. Only had my car a month and Im still getting used to RWD. Not being able to pull away, in a race along a dual carriageway with 2 roundabouts to tackle, from some kind of 5 year old Astra GSTISITSI Turbo (or whatever the hell it was) hatchback is my idea of embarrassment :o
