Had a run in with local game shop today (360 vs PS3)

I went into my local branch of Insane Games today to enquire about a Wii. Outlook is good and there's a good chance that I'd have one before Christmas. Good I thought.

I said about how I have a 360 and this should contrast the playing style nicely, and the person I was speaking to said "Don't say that too loudly" jokingly. His collegue was/is a PS3 fanboy in the extreme. He basically went on ranting to me about how everything that I could say about the 360 would be better on the PS3. I thought my only piece of ammo to that statement would be the onilne service. But apparently the PS3 online service has been play tested against Live and is better. I'm still not believing that but there ya go. Then I said "What about the cross platform compatibility? With 360 to PC?". Now I know this isn't necessarily a good thing, in fact I see it to be bad, but I needed ammo. He said "The Dreamcast had it so Sony could develop it in an instant" or something along those lines. In my head I thought, two things to say to that. One, I could swear I rememebred seeing something like "Microsoft Windows CE" or something on the side of my Dreamcast.. But more importantly, I'm sure Microsoft would never ever allow Sony to develop some kind of cross platform link with Windows.. But apparently the PS3 uses Linux so it wouldn't need to. I said..
"Well I'll be happy with my 360 and Wii for less than the PS3" and he said...
"That's ok because the PS3 is better than both of them put together."
I was a bit like.. Woah you're being patronising as hell to me here and I'm the customer. So I'm right. He actually said to me, "I've had 30years experience in this field and I know what to expect from the developers and believe it or not... You don't." I was appalled at being spoken to in that manor but there ya go. I mentioned that Ridge Racer PS3 vs 360 shot and said that the 360 version looked better. He replid with something along the lines of "No it doesn't, the PS3 version has better graphics, more levels, more cars, better game." He also mentioned about the PS3 having a built in "HDDVD player". I was quite happy about this because he threw his Blu-ray ammo out the window there, but he said "The PS3 has a HDDVD player built in which is £1000 on it's own anyway." OcUK sell one for £400?

In all honesty I don't know a hell of a lot about the PS3. But I must say I was appalled at the manner in which I was spoken to.

But yeah, could anyone shed some light on how much of that is correct etc?

Cheers,
Naffa

Also, the 360 has been out for a year rendering it 'old tech' in some peoples eyes. I believe that the 360 will keep up with the PS3 no problem, but for a console that's a year later I'd expect the difference we see with a 7800GTX to 8800GTX. Massive!! :D

Damn I wish some of you guys were there! :D

Oh yeah, he also said about how GoW was/is really really buggy and how Microsoft just released GoW now as buggy as it is to beat the PS3 launch.

And what do you make of him saying the PS3 online system will be better than Live? I personally think it will be awful in comparison to Live.

Sorry I think there's some misunderstanding here. When I say local game shop I mean my local game shop, called Insane Games (says in my first post).

They're only a small chain of 4 or so stores and I don't believe that treating customers in that respect is right at all let alone in a small busniess (there's a Gamestation 30 seconds down the street). They need all the customers they can get and treating them like they did me isn't a good way to go about it.

For a 'fanboy' he doesn't seem to know a lot about the PS3. Did he really say HD-DVD??
Yeah he did, I chuckled. :p But everything else he said about it was praising it to the heavens.. Was quite irritating tbh. I dislike fanboyism even for something that I like/own.

My instant reply to something as condescending as that would be....

"Wow, you've 30 years experience and you *still* work in a retail shop. Shows how much you know doesn't it?"

Then I'd proceed to tear his arguments apart, in front of as many customers as possible.
Rofl. :D

I know about twice as much as I did about the PS3 since I posted this thread, just wish I could go back there with some of you guys. :D
