Hi Guys,

Had an off on Wednesday morning. Bike is battered, really upset.

Damage i can see:
Front mudguard has a scuff
Handle bars bent and handle bar mount to top yoke is bent out of yoke
silver small fairing is scuffed
tank is dented on the angle and paint cracked off
generator cover almost ground through
Gear lever bent
Pillion foot rest and hanger ground a bit
The plastic tail piece is scuffed
both left side indicators are scuffed
and the crash bung did well (ish)

In short, I turned right out from my works car park. Was a bit damp so slipped the clutch a little and as i eased the clutch out and applied the throttle the next thing i know is that I am on the deck.
Now I turned right out from the car park onto the road and the bike has landed on the left hand side. Looking at the damage the tank and handle bars took most of the hit.
The bike is not ridable and my lid has cracked and jacket shoulder has a small split on it. I am all good now, the bruising is nearly gone but my confidence is shot.
What is worse is that I can not afford to repair it until the end of the year and I am not sure if doing via insurance is a good idea as I have a claim from being knocked off last year.
Had my bike licence 2 years and my car licence 1 year 3 months and I am worried that a claim will cripple me come november when the bike and car insurance is due for renewal.
Oh the bike is on finance and I do have the GAP insurance but any advice would be very helpful as I just do not know what to do.

Sorry for no pictures, really can not be bothered to upload any.

Ps bike is a 2013 Suzuki GSR750

badluck:(

I would scour online auction sites for some cheap used parts, you'll get most what you need cheap

I wouldn't put a claim in,but upto you

Sorry to hear bud :(

Yeh, applying for another claim will ruin your insurance premium.

Finding used parts for that bike will be hard tho, I belive it is a new model of bike and only been around since 2011 I think?

Sorry to hear about that Brackish, to echo what the others have said, don't put a claim thru, the insurance companies will utterly brutalize you on your next renewal, your just going to have to take this one on the chin matey.

By the sound of the damage it's actually not that bad, most of it comes across as being cosmetic, & speaking personally i'll take that over bent frames, buckled wheels etc any day. for now, ide do just enough to get it back on the road, as in bars, top yoke, gen cover & straighten your gear lever.

Any thing else can wait till you've well & truly gotten over the shock & got your confidence back.

Ouch :(

Don't worry too much about the insurance. I was knocked off a few months ago and got 3 quotes out of interest while they were sorting the claim:

Their fault - no difference in cost
Unsettled - about £20 difference
My fault - about £100 on top for the year I think and I only pay around £200 to start, so really nothing unaffordable.

I've had my full bike licence for almost 2 years now and have been riding for almost 3 and have had car for about 5 years now I think. Coming up to 3 years NCB and 0 NCB on a car.

Get onto gocompare/confused and get some 0 NCB and driver-at-fault quotes (as that's where you'll be if you claim). You might find that after excess and the increased premium you'll be better off buying parts and fixing it yourself or buy parts and pay labour.

Only metal and plastic, but it can be repaired cheaper than you think, ok it might not look pretty but it will work and by the sounds of it its mainly cosmetic.

Bars and levers can be picked up for £100 easy (the chinease levers are fine) and depending on how mechanically minded you are, simple enough to fit. I would give you a hand but bucks is a fair way from Notts.

Most of it sounds cosmetic, though you'll need to sort the bars and the mounting. A pic of the damaged bar mounting would be really useful - if the upper yoke itself damaged? A set of Renthal bars is probably cheaper (and lighter) than the Suzuki parts.

It maybe be worth using one of the on-line breaker parts request services for some of the parts.

Agh Brackish I'm sorry to hear this. Are your head and limbs and core body components undamaged?

Hopefully pegs should be cheap - did you say it shares some components with other bikes?

Tank can wait, if forks are OK then hopefully handlebars and mount might be the only thing else needing doing to get it ridable again...

glad your ok but as above i feel your pain:/

had an off my self few months ago on my 125 thou no where as bad, its still on my mind when ever i ride

Hey guys,

Cheers for the support. Will get some pictures up soon once I get the bike back from work.

Going to a suzuki garage on the weekend to list and price all the parts needed to get an idea and to see where I can keep the costs down. Should be fun!

Brack.

but my confidence is shot.

If anything coming off will make you a better rider in the end. You know what it feels like to fall pretty hard and slip/come off the bike.

IMO it's always good to know what it feels like when you're about to lose it, that way you know when to ease off or make a correction before it's too late. I'm glad I've felt my back end and front end go (not come off like that fortunately).

Did you figure out what happened? Was there oil/diesel on the road or was it purely a slip of the clutch/throttle?

I know it might increase your premium but with a bike that new I would want it done right, plus I doubt there will be any cheap/second hand bits for a bike that new ?

Sorry to hear it. Happens to the best of us. My worst fall was a first gear jobbie like that and I was flipped off the side too.

Just get back on the bike as soon as you can and the confidence will come
