I had my first race meeting at the weekend in the British Supermoto Championship at Silverstone. The Saturday was just practice, and was a bit crazy really. All the riders from the 3 groups on track at once, so while I'm trying to get used to a bike and track that I've never ridden before, I'm getting passed by an Elite Class rider backing it in to a corner.
So the Saturday was mainly spent messing with the bike and getting used to it. The front end is dangerously light at high speed, so where I should still be on the throttle, I was having to back off.
Sunday was race day, and I was crapping myself. Qualified last but I was expecting that anyway. It's the penultimate round of the series so everybody is up to speed.
The first time I was on the starting grid was just awesome, and the nerves went away. I managed to stay with the group for a few laps, but I just wasn't bike fit and had to back off. I got really bad arm pump and thought if I didn't slow down, I would have an accident. The next 2 races were a little easier, probably as I was more relaxed, but I couldn't manage full pace for the entire race. It's such a tight track so there were no places to rest.
Anyway, I just wanted to have a race before this season ends, and hopefully try and do a full series next year. Even though I came last (well, a there were a few crashes so technically not last
) I had an amazing weekend. So different to track days anyway.
This photo was taken on the Saturday, so I am going very steady. I was getting my footpags down on the Sunday. Not easy on what is technically a Motocross bike.
