Arrived back last night after a couple of days down by Crowland getting the car fitted with some new goodies from the lads at Jabba.
Everything went fairly smoothly, was there from 9am too 7pm and had a 4hr+ drive home.

Lucky for me, the drive home was something special!

The car is awsome! Fifth gear on the motorway is superb, and what can I say about third! From 30mph too 110mph and very rapidly does it do it!

The dyno print is included, if you click on the pic it will take you too the larger version.

240.7bhp with 249.07ft/lbs

Very pleased!

So the standard engine is the 1.8 180bhp model?

What were the overall costs involved?

Yes the vRS is a 180bhp 1.8t 20v in standard form.

The mods are :

Full Jabba Sport Custom Remap on RR and Road
Full Blueflame Exhaust system with 100cel cat
Carbonio Carbon fibre Cold Air Induction
Baileys DV30 Dump Valve
Boost Controller

That would all cost around £1200 give or take, I also had some new DS2500 brake pads and fluid change too DOT4, while some new 225/45 tyres will replace the current 205/50 in all four corners in a few weeks.

Engine wise the next step would be down the FMIC route and then a IHI turbo conversion, but for now this setup will be more than enough.

Very nice figures mate!

Any idea what boost it runs to make that power?

You are looking at 0.7-0.9 bar set up on the 1.8T engine as standard.

Typical remapped boost is about 1.5 -1.6 bar which is getting to the limit of the K03(s) turbo.

Threads like this need banning, especially on Pay-Day :(

/Tries to resist getting Cupra R remapped :(

Enjoy the remap fella, seems like you have recieved quite a gain there!

It's a must I'm sorry to say!
If you have the newer Cupra R you should be running a K04 turbo and your looking around the 280bhp mark after a remap

Very nice.

How well do the VAG Fwd cars put the power down?

Suprisingly well to he honest, as you put off the damn ASR that messes around too much with the power.
Your looking at wheelspin in 1-2 and third sometimes in the dry, in the wet it's not going to be running at full boost.

The steps too take are wider tyres ( 205>225 ) and after that it's a case of running 18s or 19s which a fair few people do.

To be honest they say around 300bhp is usuable, but after that your looking at chaning tranction and other setups etc to get the power down. Jabba themselfs havea 400bhp Mk4 and they use it round track so much be able to get a fairly decent amount of traction.

do you know where the air temp reading on the graph is measured from?

No not sure too be honest, 20oC would have been about right for the ambinet air out side at around 18.30, as it was around 23oC all day there.

Out of interest, how did you find the Blueflame exhaust? I currently have the twin pea-shooter and would like the nice oval and I think BF do them, but I have heard some complaints. Then again, Milltek and Magnex had a few complaints too.

Also, the CAI, whats that sound like. It's recommended by a lot of people. Is the dumping noise very loud through it?

Nothing but praise for the Blueflame. I went and had it fitted at the actual workshop as most people do in Liverpool. They made some custom sections as they had none off the shelf without adding more than 30min extra.

The exhaust sounds is very nice, a deep rumble thats not too loud, without any booming when cruising on motorways. And it's note gets very nice when the exhaust has warmed up!
From what I've read on various forums, Blueflame always come out top for custom service and end product. The fact they make OEM for the likes of TVR is a good pointer, and the bike guys only ever rave about them!

The CAI can only be described as Dath Vadar when coming off the accelerator pedal! It's a very good piece of kit too, the carbon fibre looks nice under the bonnet :p

Some exhasut and CAI sound clips that I made a few weeks back : http://www.rhodribaker.zen.co.uk/vrs/ ( minus matt and andygolf ).

My exact next question.

A lot of people claim 240+ hp is too much for a front wheel drive. Personally I have no idea what they are on about.... in the dry :p

Nope, only kind of traction control is the ASR on the car which is more of a pain that a help.

Must admin the LSD on the ITR was a great piece of kit.

That's pretty bad for 240bhp tbh, unless the tyres are rubbish. :(

Id get an LSD next, the Quaiffes seem to be very nice for traction.

It's the tyres as much as anything, their some random crap the dealer put on the car, branded but not picked especially for the car. In a few weeks their going and so will the 205/50 being replaced with the wider 225/45. There are a couple of tyres that get great review from the Pirelli Rosso and the Eagle F1's. I think the Pirellis might pip it as there used as standard of a fair few Porshes, Ferraris and a couple other supercars :p

Different turbos on different engines - 150bhp are usually K03, 180 are K03s and 225 are K04.

Randell - great results from that remap. Seriously makes me wonder if I should go the same route (also have a 180bhp 1.8T).

Out of interest, what have all those mods done to your insurance premium?

Insurance would have been around £450 standard and I will be paying around £650 when renewal comes around end of next month.

Not so bad when I paying £1000+ for the ITR a few years back.

Randal, do you prefer the ITR or the VRS and which ever you choose, why?

Well the ITR was a totally different kind of car, so any real comparisment isn't fair on both cars.

The ITR handling is in a totally different league, don't think the vRS could even match it after spending thousands of dollars on setting it up to handle, but thats not saying the vRS can't handle it's just a unfair car too base it's handling on coming from a ITR!

The power as anyone N/A vrs Turbo will say is just totally different, before the remap I would have said the ITR was my favourite kind of delivery, but this remap might just change that, I need to give it a few weeks to see what it's like.

From 0-60mph now I think the vRS would be failry even with the ITR just pulling away, but anything from rolling, the vRS is going to pull away, and after about 80mph the vRS will be be saying cheerio very quickly. 2nd gear in the vRS gives around 75mph and 3rd 110mph, where as the ITR needed shifting to third at 58mph and fourth wasnt a very long gear either.

I do miss the ITR, but that's not too say if I went back to one I'd want the vRS back, like I said two vey different cars. In a ideal world the ITR would be kept for track days and mountain driving and the vRS as a motorway Q car.
