Hello,

I posted underneith about the fan on my SAPPHIRE X1600XT dying. Well I just had this crazy idea that the old cooler on my XFX 6600GT might go on it instead, as the holes look just about in the same place and theres the same 2 pin connector.

These are the exact same makes as in the images below

Here is the 6600GT with the cooler (the actual one I have now)

Althought the ram chips might need heatsinks, it looks as though it could work! Do you think this could work?

Comments?

looks like ati use larger holes or is it just the picture making me think that plus have you measured the holes yourself or are you using the pictures as a guide

will the 6600 cooler be able to cope with the heat output though?
The 6600GT runs at ~50*c idle and ~60*c at load. Its a really good quality cooler, and the fan is really fast and loud at max speed.

Both cards run pretty much at the same clock speed (the ATI a few 10mhz higher). I dont think it would be a problem.

You could be right but the 6600GT cooler uses push pins and not screws so it might work, and yes, I am using the pictures as a guide.

I guess theres only one way to find out though :P

Nah. The fan connectors are different size, damn it.

T'was worth a try. Guess it's going back then.

Thanks for posting anyway.
