Hadware H264 decoding nvidia graphics card

Hi guys,


i have the following setup for my htpc

amd xp 2500+
geforce 4 ti4400
512mb ram

I am experiencing stuttering when playing back 720p content on my 37" lcd.


The cpu usage is maxed out and it skips frames. do you think buying a card that will decode h264 in hardware will help? i have seen the 6600 AGP cards for cheap and the table on nvidias website show, they support it as well.

edit / what will i need software wise assuming i can get a geforce 6 series card? I've got vlc atm lol

You'd need Nvidia Purevideo I think

even then it won;t work on windows xp. all hd decoding is borked. haven;t seen anyone run it properly yet.

So after spending so much Im screwed,

I guess there is always the option to OC the cpu.

any ideas how much i'll need out of it
