HAF 912 and some silly cathodes

By now you are probably wondering why I would need/want to change the appearance of a perfectly nice case. Answer is - I got bored and this can easily be changed back.

Before I continue I do realize that not everybody will find this to their taste. I am simply giving others example of what can be done by installing cathodes and placing them in different positions.

Anyway, I started out with just a plain HAF 912 case. Nice enough but got bored after a week or so.
Bought some red cathodes. (They do look more pink than red though)
Then, I had another stroke of boredom and bought 4 30cm blue cathodes.

I apologize for the poor quality of photos as they were taken on a mobile phone. If requested I can take more pictures with a better camera.

Let me know what you think and any suggestions would be appreciated.

'Red' cathodes are always pink. I RMAed three sets from 'an alternative online retailer of electronic goods' before being told 'actually, we just tested a bunch and this is probably as red as they get so we'll give you a refund'.

In any case, LEDs are less noisy, produce 'true' colours, and use up less power.

Welcome to OCUK.

Blue fans and red CC... each to their own I guess :p

One thing I'd do is tidy up those cables :)

Thanks,
And yeah when i first built it there was not a cable in sight, but now there is just too many xD. Might take an hour or so out to tidy it up though.

Cheers for the suggestion.

It was case of, well I'm sure it will grow on me when I got mine. Like the cooling in it, and to be fair you do get a lot of bang for the buck, its just not going to win any beauty contests lol

That said, it has grown on me since I've had it :)

I have just reaplaced my cathodes with LED strips, two uv 60cm strips are at least as bright as when I first got the 4 12" and 2 4" uv cathodes. I assume the LED strips wont gradually dim either, which is why I opted for them instead of the cathodes this time, as after 6 months a UV cathodes is pretty ****.

I did think about getting LED's instead mate, but this was a spur of the moment thing, 4 30cm blue cathodes for 12 quid you cant really complain.

The next thing to go on this project will either be replace all cathodes with LED strips, or to just get a load more cathode kits and make a proper switch panel for the front.

Very nice :)

'Red' cathodes are always pink.

They can also be bright orange after glowing a while like in my case. I think the solution is to wrap one or two layers of red gel sheet around the cathodes to make it more 'redder'. Ofcourse if cathodes need to glow more darker red, then more layers of gel sheet can be wrapped around cathodes.

:p

I'm kidding. I like it, it's completely crazy. Must be distracting.

Yea, pricing wise cathodes are much better value, Ive just gone through so many cathodes now that im ****ed off at them not glowing, since my pc is on nearly 24/7 and the lights are on too, they fade pretty fast :(
Hoping that the extra investment in LEDS will be worth it, although I already want more than the 2 UV and 1 white 60cm strips, since they look well shiny lol. Will post a before andafter pic at the weekend (have before pics, but not after and im not at home)

12v prewird SMDs for the win. Ive been into case lighting for years and these beat out cathodes every day. Cheap kit too if bought separately and self soldered

Hope it goes well for you mate :) I was considering clipping the LED's on the front fan, so that i can have the case completely blue (I think blue suits the HAF much better than red.)
