HAF X frustrations

Hi guys,

Im in the middle of a new build of parts from OCUK using a HAF X case.

Aside from hitting a bit of an issue with the GFX 570 bracket not lining up with the screw holes on the case (resolved with a combo of case pushing from the back and a bit of a bend to the 570 bracket) its been a joy to work on until....

I tried to install a 3.5 inch HDD. I have an SSd for the OS so this is just going to be a data storage drive. The HAF-X drive bays come with 4 pins through silicone/elastic rubbers. You are supposed to bend the caddy slightly, push one side of the drive onto the two caddy pins and then close it and locate the other two pins on the other side.

Sadly, my pins will not go into the holes of the Seagate baracuda 1Tb drive i just bought.

im a bit shocked. Ive pulled the pins out the caddy and just simply tried pressing them in the holes and they arent even close to fitting.

Ive reassembled the drive about 10 times trying various wiggles and stuff and even when the pins look like they are in, they are still proud enough to stop the caddy sliding back into the case.

Any ideas anyone? (ive tried all the caddys by the way - same story)

Thanks
Matt

I had the same issue with my 932 and a samsung spinF3, i was wriggleing arround for ages, have you tryed some HDD screws, some that are small enough, otherwise its just a case of moving the rubber fittings about untill they pop into place, dont be affraid to use a bit of force.

I have the same case - if you do get it sorted you'll be happy with it :)

You can always use the hot swap bays in the 5.25" bays (bottom two). Just remove the controller panel on the inside of the case and screw it into the bay using the screws provided.

True it won't have a fan going directly over it but it should be fine.

Well, Ive got it sorted by i guess my solution was slightly more unusual that 'wiggling it harder' which whilst pleasing for my wife did little to get my HDD in my HAF-X.

In the end i took the 4 pins out the caddy, grabbed a metal file and filed the tip of each one about 1mm shorter and then chamfered the edges so rather than being a flat tip they were more like points.

Now they go into the drive threads a bit deeper and its all flush.

Job done. Love the case. Its so sweet but has 'character' lol in its little foibles such as these.

Love in = love out tho. Now my case is unique :)
