Good day watercooling extraordanaires.

My computer room gets really hot in summer so I've decided to upgrade my gtx580 to a 680 and watercool it.

A couple questions spring to mind.

My case is a HAF X with 2 200mm fans in the roof. Will this be enough to cool a 360mm rad fitted below the fans?

Second part to this. My CPU (i7 2600k, not oc'd) already uses an ECO Coolit with a 120mm fan pointing out the back. Should I keep this or scrap it and include my CPU into the 360mm rad loop, or maybe even just use a 240mm rad for gpu and leave the CPU as is.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, whether it's a different idea for a configuration or just telling me I've got it all backwards swiftly followed by mockery.

Thanks.

Hello, and welcome to the forums :)

If you're cooling your GPU, you may aswell get rid of the CPU cooler and put your CPU in the loop too.

The 200mm fans will be enough to cool your rad, but I personally would swap them for 3x 120mm fans as that will be the optimum set up.

With regards to attaching a rad, you can have a slimmer rad with fan nearer the mobo. This is a very easy option to do and one that I would recommend. You could also have a thick rad with the fans on top. This is very awkward to do but will give better temperatures (although the difference is around 2 degrees going by THIS)

Don't know if you mean the temp of graphics card or room because water cooling wont decrease your room temp, may even increase it.

If it was me I would include the cpu in to the loop would look so much better and you would have lower cpu temps. I would replace the 2 200mm fans with 3 120mm for the rad as I don't think the large fans would cool the rad very well.

I know the watercooling won't make my room cooler. But it means I'm not cooling my pc with already hot air.

But that's just the information I was after guys so thanks.

Would you recommend settin up a push/pull on the rad or just 1 or the other?

Just one will be fine :)

a 360 rad with fans underneith will fit no problem , myself that's wot I did and removed the 200mm fans , can be fiddly putting it in but not a real issue, I did the barbs to back but makes no difference either way

The Plan

HafXWaterCoolingDiagram-1.jpg

Parts:
Res+Pump;
This is where I'm struggling with what to choose and where to put them. I was thinking a bay res because I really like the idea of having it showing at the front of my pc. But then I'm not sure where to go with the pump.

Tubing;
Masterkleer PVC (1/2' ID) UV Clear/Blue

Radiators;
XSPC RX360 120mm

XSPC EX140, I may go for something thicker here. Also considering putting the 360mm rad above the fans inside.

Fans;
120mm Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1850RPM. Standard rad fans from what I've read. If anyone knows of any decent blue LED rad fans I'd take a look.

CPU Block;
XSPC RayStorm CPU Copper or EK Supreme HF Copper Plexi.

XSPC is higher end from what I can tell, but I like the idea of seeing the liquid in the plexi block.

GPU;
EVGA GTX680 Hydro Copper.

I use 2 x 200mm in the roof of my HAF X with a 360 radiator mounted below. I can actually have one fan turned off and it still works fine.

This was with an i5 2500k at 4.8ghz and 2 x 460GTX in SLi, all in the same loop.

I now run my 2500k at 4.2ghz with a single 7850 2gb and again have no problems using 200mm fans.

The 120mm fans you are looking at do 58CFM each where as a single bitfenix spectre pro 200mm fan does 148CFM.

You can only fit one bitfenix spectre pro at the front part of the case though. It will fit in the back part, but you have to cut some plastic. This is because they have large bits of plastic around the fans. So I have one of these in the front and then at the back I have a coolermaster megaflow 200mm.

So overall I'd recommend sticking with your original plan of using 200mm fans :)

Edit, I have the res where you have it on your pic, but I have the pump in the bottom of the case next to the PSU.

Originally i had the 360 the other way round, but that meant my 140 couldnt be mounted in the case, so it looked like this.

However i didnt like the result, so reversed the 360, and its all good now.

Couldn't you have still had the 140 rad inside, but the fn outside?

Did you have any issue with the D5 vibrating in the Haf X? Mine vibrated too much when in the bay, hence why it now sits on a foam pad above my PSU.
