Hi,
Before buying a new PSU can, cant the unit be half dead?
It will not wake my Asus P5W deluxe which uses all 24pins + the 12v 4pin CPU connector, i tried it on an Asus powering an AMD but only uses 20pin configuration and will power it up. on the Asus P5w Deluxe the green power indicator on motherboard is on but no initial fan spins like it normally does, the setup has been totally stripped of components except CPU and fan and the PSU has been tested by shorting green and black wire with a molex connected fan and HDD and they seem to spin.
I could not test the voltage with a multimeter, instead i used a fan to see if any current was going through, not a reliable way as i cannot determine the amparage or voltage, but i can power it fine from the 12v cpu and the extra 4 pins from the 20(24pin) socket.
The power supply in question is Antec truepower 2.0 550Watt
And it was powering for around 3 months:
Asus P5W Deluxe
Intel core duo E6600
Nvidia 8800GTX
2Gig OCZ ram
3 HDD's
All running at stock configuration
Thanks for the input.
ok, i checked visually the psu through the side grill and i can see 1 capacitor with brown dried foam on top, that tells me its dried up and losts its ability to charge. So I guess I stressed the PSU too much with my setup.
Ok any recommendations for a powerfull but not over the top PSU?
