half life 1 running too fast!?

I've recently downloaded this from steam and all of a sudden its running really quickly. Not in a good way though - the controls are impossible as i move so fast across the level i can't steer myself!?

Any ideas, I was just getting into it as well. Half life 2 is fine though.
 
fps_max (0-100)

You can type that into the console for Counter Strike, try it out in HL1 and see what happens.

(0-100) - Just change that to whatever number you want. (I think)
 
set the priority of hl.exe (or whatever its called) to affinity

its to do with your dual core cpu. Some early games and even some newer games dont react to well with it, san andreas did exactly this to on some dual core set ups, running at insane speeds
 
Search for the config.cfg file in the installation folder. I found 3 of them. Open them up in Notepad and scroll down to "forward speed" and "back speed". I found both mine were set to 400. Change the values to something like 70 and save. Now run the game. You will find both back and forward speeds are now acceptable.

1st post and it's a bump for a thread that's 4 years old? Rather odd.
