got orange box yesterday installed all the games and decided to play them in order or release.

played half life 2 for about 4 hours and i was bored pretty much most of the way through. i have just managed to get off the boat and do the part with the mavity gun and now im going doing the i think raven area but stopped there.

does this game pick up at all or is it pretty much just shoot, find something out, shoot the whole way through?

im wondering then am i able to skip this game and not really miss much out by either going to episode 1 or 2?

Stick with it. How much time are you spending messing about? I got bored after spending too much time 'playing about' rather than actually playing the game, but after a couple months I started again but without the messing about and I really loved the experience. Think of it as an awesome interactive sci-fi story :p

the boaty bit is fairly dull and over-long imo, has put off a lot of people I know who have played through the game for the first time after hearing about the hype.

Stick with it, it gets a lot better.

I found the boat section boring too. Plus the game doesn't really have you interact with the story imo, say like Mafia did. The story is more a background setting. The game just seems to involve getting from A-B while killing what gets in your way.

It's done really well though, but just a tad overated.

as said, dont muck around wasting time in the games, as you have all 3, play through them fast, and you will enjoy it a whole lot more than if you go slowly through it, exploring every room etc.

the story will draw you in better that way as well

Portal has the best gameplay of all the SP games in the Orange Box anyway.

HL2, EP1 and EP2 can be easily completed in 9 hours :)

HL2 is amazing, ok the boat bit drags a bit but the best is yet to come, Ravenholm things change dramatically and it really is the highlight of the whole game

Half life 2 never gets going, you keep waiting for exciting bits, but they never come.
You are all the time thinking "right, its going to pick up now" and then its over.

I've recently played out HL2 and agree ravenholm is the best part, the story really doesn't jump in though untill near the end, it took me like a year to play it through but it's an awesome experience.
About 80% thru ep1 now :), in just 2 days. The HL2 experience dragged me in.

I didn't want to start a new thread so this is slightly off topic, but my HL2 updated itself yesterday, I lost all my save games and noticed it says 64-bit on the menu. This happen to anyone else?:confused?:

Took me about 9hrs (guess) to complete EP2 alone, so I dunno about 'easily'. I am a fairly slow gamer and tend to backtrack for health, hunt around a lot etc but even so I reckon doing all 3 in under 10 hours without having played them before certainly wouldn't be 'easy' unless rushing like mad.

god mode tbh

Well I gotta say I loved the game, every bit. Really cinematic experience, got my heart thumping loads. Bit scarey in parts too.
