Half life 2 crash?

Right guys,

Downloaded HL2 (on steam) as i have not played it for years and 15 minutes in the game crashes, the screen went black and the sound was on repeat if you know what i mean.

I rebooted and continued from my last save, i got past the point it crashed at and 15-20 minutes later it did the same thing.

After having a tinker i thought i would clean my PC out and put fresh thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, started playing and the same thing happened.

I can play BC2, MW2 etc for hours with no issue so why is it happening?

I had a look online and found a few bits and bobs but nothing seemed relevant.

Q6600
P5k-E
Be Quiet 650w
4gb Corsair DDR2
BFG 8800gt with aftermarket cooler.

Not OC'd anymore

have you tried checking the game cache and re-downloading the game again sometimes it helps clear up problems.

sometimes my fallout 3 crshes evertime i start i just re-download again and it's fine

try that first and let us know what happens
