Half Life 2 crashes whenever I save

I just installed Half Life 2 on my Inspiron 640m laptop, and the game runs fine and smooth. However, whenever I save, or the autosave kicks in, it crashes. The save completes, because I can go back to it by reloading HL2. I've tried disabling autosave, but even a manual save causes a crash.

Any ideas? I've searched google to no avail.

you have more than likely tried this, but have you tried checking the integrity of the install's of the game using steam? I believe you do it by right clicking on the game in question, and then looking at the options. It is possible that a file is causing the trouble.

The other possiblity is maybe a driver issue on the laptop?
