Half Life 2 crashing

Been getting back into hl2 recently
Got as far as follow freeman pt2
and the game is crashing out at the same point every time
Been playing the game on my newish Gigabyte 270X
Tried onboard with a 4670k,crashes at same point
Steam fully up to date reinstalled amd drivers then updated drivers to beta
still crashes at exactly same point in game
(went back to a previous game save but still crashes when I get to the same point)

Other steam games play fine and a few disc loaded games too

What else can I try guys?

right click Half-Life 2 in steam, choose Properties.
Click on Local Files tab
Click Verify Integrity of game cache.
Let it work, if anything is broken it will re-download the damaged bits.

Hopefully that should sort it.

Already tried that this afternoon,sorry forgot to say that
cut out a load of saves and went back through the last chapter too,still crashes at the same point in game

Seems like restarting the chapter`might` fix this(so it says on a few other sites)
Will try this tomorrow and post back results

Restarted the level/chapter and all is now good

I'm due a replay of this at some stage too. Ah, the memories.

You should play with the cinematic mod. Brings it right up to date.

Re cinematic mod you need to have all games in the series to get this to work?
I only have hl2 and episode 1
