I'm going to start playing Half Life 2 again because never got around to completing it before (playing on hardest setting)

Are there any graphics mods other than the Update that is in Steam that just appears to make things more bright and the Cinematic mod which looks great but changes the game too much for my liking.

Something like just HD textures and HD model skins would be good - but not actually changing the models and textures to other things, just increasing the detail

I did try it and it looked nice but also changed the atmosphere of the game in parts quite a lot.

It changed the feel of the game which is not really what I want. HD texture pack would be good - no daft bright HDR lighting, just textures. Cinematic mod also made the characters look daft

Waw, would love to play that game again. Have to upgrade my pc first as dog slow for gaming as its a small laptop!

Whats Waw? As I said the update in steam just seems to make things more bright.
With the cinematic mod can textures alone be added? Didnt know that, if so ill download it again

Just means i used to love that game and like to play it again

Are right. I thought it was a game! :)

Just found quite a good video showing comparisons

I am going to install the update as the cinematic mod changes the atmosphere too much. They also have appeared to have made the character look retarded (2 mins in)

Guess it is down to preference but Cinematic Mod just adds so much unnecessary ****e in terms of adding to textures and sticking logos on things.

I dont want to see a bloody Coke can in a fictional universe. ***** plastered all over the real world as is.

I'm too much of a die hard fan to change anything until you've done a play through once. The game wasn't without flaws but you should definitely play it once through the way it was meant to be played. It's not so impossible on hard, it's just as it's meant to be, hard to do. It's a good enough game to play through again with mods to appreciate the changes people of have made.

This is the best place to search for mods:

In the Cinematic mod's installer you get to choose between using original character models or various new ones so how they look is up to you.

Sold!

Never seen that comparison for CM to original before - really highlights the work they put in.

I appreciate people want to play something that matches the original, but having completed the original myself I'm actually looking forward to giving CM a try - with original models of course, because they just went to far their in my opinion.

I tried the update yesterday and it just seemed too bright and clean. City 17 is supposed to be dull and not nice. Back to vanilla for me. Nothing added, nothing taken away. It didnt get 97% (or whatever it was) for no reason
