Half Life 2 installation problem.

Hi Guys

I have bought Half Life 2 (cd-key) from the MM. he told me to make a new steam account as I allready have CSS and then I could have another account with CSS so can sell the old one or use with a freind.

I go to activate the game and enter the keycode and i get this message

and as I have just got the cd-key I dont have a retail cd/dvd.
The person I bought this from is putting the files on a dvd for me but this will not be the retail cd. so does this mean i need a retail cd to activate my cd-key for Half Life 2

anyone know if i can activate this another way?

Thanks for that but i cant seem to get anything there.

what if I borrowed a mates HL2 retail disk when it says enter your retail disk ?

would that work ?

Edit, ignore my original post.

You just need to get any Half-Life 2 DVD, and install using that. You'll be fine with a friends copy.

its a brand knew key that i just bought from someone on the MM.

he told me to make a new steam account which i did then when i entered the key i got a message saying insert the retail cd

Retail Half-Life 2 CD Keys need to be sold with the Half-Life 2 DVD for installation, but once a Steam account has been created with it assosiated with it, you don't need the DVD any more.

What you could do, is contact the Seller, get him to create a new Steam account for you with the CD Key, then give you all the new account details, so you can then just download the games you need via Steam.

no its ok I can get my mates copy as he has a boxed version. i'll get it tonight and use that. the guy I bought it from said he will put the CFG files on a DVD for me so i dont have to download the game.

yup he did that and i added the key to his account.
