Argh,

Just installed Vista beta2, everything fine apart from when I run half-life 2 I get awful graphical tearing and artifacts,, tried 3 different drivers, changing the settings etc, obviously not that..
Google revealed it is a know problem but couldn't find a fix, does anyone on here have any idea what it could be?? :(

Could it be that it's because it's a beta OS and the drivers havn't matured yet?

Go back to XP.

Go back to XP.

most unhelpful post ever.

have you tried using the compatability wizard on differant settings?
the only thing i can see it being is dodgy drivers. Get some vista drivers for your card (ati/nvidia have vista ones available) and use driver cleaner to delete the old ones.

It's a known problem so its a widespread bug, the others havn't solved it so why should anyone here be able to?

I've tried the official main nvidia drivers from the nvidia site for vista, and some beta ones from 3dchipset.com and I get the same problem all the time..
Card is a 7800GTX, might have to go back to XP..

Hey stop stomping on a guy for trying a Beta OS. The idea is to solve problems in a beta test rather than just say "go back to XP". Or do you not want your games to work in Vista?

The issue sounds like its driver related so how exactly can we solve it? It's a known problem, so unless we have some driver developers here theres nothing more he can do until they release some updated ones.

its a known problem, yet all you lot wanna take the easy way out "go back to xp".

At least offer some suggestions, be a bit constructive?

Hmm I thought hl2 was one of the games which worked ok. I've not got round to installing that one yet. Does sound like a driver issue, but other games work fine. Only thing I can think of is selecting compatablity mode for XPsp2 and enable the admin rights. But I'd guess someone has already tried that.

I'll give it a go when I get home in an hour...

That surprises me a little that it doesn't work. It was one of the first games I tried on x64 Vista with the new nvidia drivers. It work perfectly and seemed a little quicker than in XP. Which version are you on, the x64 or x86?

Why not create a seperate partition for XP and leave the existing installation of Vista on your machine. That way whilst your waiting for a solution to emerge you can continue running incompatible applications on xp as a slave OS.

Well for me it ran quick, not sure on FPS count but it wasn't sluggish at 1280x1024 with everything set to high. No artefacts to. I'm running the x64 build of Vista so I don't know if that makes a difference, but certainly my 3dmark 2006 was almost 800 points more than a xp32 installation of 3dmark
