Hello,

I am about to buy my first laptop and wanting to know if it will be powerfull enough to run Half Life 2 / Counter Strike Source / DOD: Source ?

This is the laptop,

Acer Aspire 5051AWXMi
AMD Turion 64 mobile technology MK-36 / 2 GHz 512 KB - L2 Cache
512 MB - DDR II SDRAM
60 GB HDD
DVD±RW (+R double layer) / DVD-RAM - integrated
14.1" TFT active matrix 1280 x 800 ( WXGA ) - 24-bit (16.7 million colours)
Graphics Controller ATI Radeon Xpress 1100
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 or Vista

What you think ? will it run ?

Also does half life 2 run on Windows Vista ?

Thanks

It'll run, but don't expect to have the eye candy up too high. You're going to be seriously limited by the graphics chip, which all things considered will probably eat into the already fairly limited RAM.

I have an Acer 1642 WLMi

Intel Pent Centrino 1.73
Intel Graphics (shared)
60GB HD
1GB DDR2

Whilst it's not bad, Acer pre-install software which means you have things like Norton cloggin the system a bit - I am prob going to wipe it and do a fresh install.

The other thing with Laptops (least with Acer) is they format the drive Fat32 so you'll prob want to change it to NTFS... however the windows inbuilt utility doesn't do the converstion at the optimum cluster size so a further utlity is going to be needed to get it right
"as converting to NTFS is not as good - the resulting cluster size will be less than optimal... 512 bytes, as opposed to the usual recommendation of 4K"
They do it because they say some people want fat  and this way leaves it for customers to choose. Wouldn't be so bad if they gave you a windows disk! Instead when you get it the first thing the laptop will ask you for is a blank DVD to create your restore disk...

Not trying to put you off Acer, they are very good for the price, just small things to bear in mind.

Ps I agree with the poster above, it won't be anything special for gaming...
