Hi,

I thought I'd try out the demo of this game before purchase, and it stutters like crazy, my pc is quite powerful;

amd 4800
ati 1900 mastercard and 1900xtx in crossfire
a8r32 mvp deluxe
2 gig corsair 3500LL pro
2 wd 250mb hd in raid 0

I tried all the little fixes, like removing background apps etc, and also the beta shortcut entry to launch the game yet it still stutters.

Does the full version still have these issues?
I'm sure it's a great game but not when it runs like this!

Thanks
Raja

try setting the texture detail to medium if that clears it up you know what the problem is, its up to you then if you want to play through it with that setting as it is with a beast of a setup like yours, it seems silly. (if it works)

Hi,

I don't think I'll be buying the full version after all, it's just too much hassle to get the game to work to an enjoyable level, I've read quite a few reports, even after all this time the game is still bugged, what a shame as it could have been awesome.

Thanks

Hi i had this problem with a game and it drove me nutt's .

I found info about it on anot[H]er forum and it fixed it .

Start game

Then alt -tabb ... Or ctrl -ESC

Task manager >

Look in prosseses for the HL2 .exe

Right click on it and scrole down to SET AFFNITY

Then uncheck one of the cpu boxs .

Close task manager

Expand back to game .... No stutter .

You will however have to do this every time you play if it works .

Hope that helps ...If not it might help somone else

Hi,

yeah done the full monty, gone as far as you sensibly can with tweaking the demo, my problems start on the options screen before the game has even started. Tried knocking down the resolution to 800*600, will try it with med textures - though that kinda defeats the object of having my system!!!

The only other thing I have not yet tried is to completley turn off hardware sound accel. Not too hopeful though.............

It doesn't like dual core CPUs.

I have this exact same problem playing CS: Source and the game usually crashes after around 5 minutes.

If however you set the affinity of hl2.exe so that it's only allowed to work off one core it will be fine.

Oh, and a hint, if you set the affinity of steam.exe, any program launched from steam will inferit the affinifty setting.

Hi,

well I've tried just about everything, basically it plays ok for about 5 mins, then the lock ups start, I can play for 5 seconds, then each lock up lasts for about 20 seconds which makes the game unplayable. I have disabled almost everything I can find in the taskbar. The demo is actually from steam, and has updated itself, so this should be inline with the current full version?

Thanks
Raja

I found that this helped a lot:

(not sure if it will apply to the demo though)

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=403258

When you apply the changes as per the instructions, steam will update the beta stuttering fix to HL2, Lost Coast, DODSource, CS:S etc - once the games have updated give them a try and see if there's any difference.

Also, reducing AA seems to reduce the stuttering
