Half Life 2 Problems

A friend has just bought HL2 and when it starts up it resets his system :confused:

He's just bought it and its of a fairly decent spec pc and all his drivers etc are up to date any ideas?

Control Panel - System - Advanced Tab - Startup & Recovery settings - Untick Automatically Restart.

This should show a BSOD and give details what drivers (if any) are causing the problem

Done that and now it refuses to load got any ideas?

Are the motherboard drivers installed? Tried installing the latest DirectX from the Microsoft website? There are several versions of DirectX 9.0c so always best to update!

Erm... Other than that, sounds a bit fishy. I would guess at sound card/ Graphics card drivers. You could try removing the sound card and trying another gfx card if you get desperate.

Also, make sure any background processes are stopped. CTRL + ALT + DEL and end as many tasks as possible.
