I only ever played a bit of it when it came out, and want to play it properly now. I'm going to have to buy myself a copy of it cos it was my brother's copy before. The thing is, I have no internet connection on my PC. Does this mean I won't be able to use it, or is there anyway I can register or whatever it needs the internet connection for on my GF's laptop that does have net access?

It needs net to validate and download the unlock files mate:

* Memory: 256 MB RAM

No HL2 until you get net i'm afraid.

You could take your PC to a internet connection though, get it activated and updated if there is any and then play it without a connection.
