Half Life 2 RTX

No FG

MFG x4

As usual, there is a slight increase in latency from MFG but the vastly increase in motion clarity outweighs that. Only graphical artifacts I can notice are on some shadows.

And as always, when a game has no HDR support or poor HDR, enable RTX HDR! Photos never come out as good as what it is like seeing with your own eyes, either slightly under exposed or too over exposed.

No nvidia driver yet either so hopefully performance gets even better when that comes.

I downloaded the demo, installed , when it loads up it says I need latest graphics card driver , I have a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070. Can anyone give me a download website.

Thanks David

I updated to my latest graphics driver for my card, game loaded though graphics aren't great with my GPU. Just uninstalled. :D

Seems to be running very well, loads of options in the RTX remix demo to change so could probably get it running great on a 2070 (especially since dlss transformer model so damn good now so could use ultra performance mode)

Ultra performance is going to look pretty awful unless they're running it on a 4k monitor, which I doubt considering they're using a 2070.

It would essentially be pointless to run a game that's meant to showcase path tracing at low settings with an effective render resolution of 480p or perhaps even 360p, it'll look woeful.

I wouldn't use ultra performance but it is crazy good with the latest DLSS model for what it is working with and if you don't mind a bit of smudging of textures in motion and a bit cartoony graphics on stuff with thin lines or intricate detail, etc. it is playable if that is what it takes.

I've tested it on a 3440x1440 monitor with a 5080 and the drop off in quality is very noticeable imo.

Still, a 2070 isn't going to be very efficient at DLSS4, and if the starting point at 1080p max settings with PT is the below on a 2080ti, it looks like you'd have to turn everything down or off to achieve even 30fps on a 2070.

I don't observe much latency increase with FG enabled, it feels like how Stalker 2 does, as in very responsive.

At 4K with FG off and DLSS Quality I can get over 60fps at all times which is actually on par with Cyberpunk full path traced. With FG enabled it's over 100fps at all times. Looks and runs great and feels like OG HL2 just with nicer visuals.

The 4090 powers through as expected

DLSS quality ultra preset at 4k and over 60 fps? Doubt..... :p

Not seen any footage showing that yet unless this is amd cpus holding back perf.....

e.g. 4090 with 7800x3d in above video and dlss quality is getting 40 fps and dlss perf is getting 60+ fps

Just turn FSR4 on bro, oh wait...

Suppose amd gpu owners could always just mod it in using optiscaler?

But then again, iirc, it was such a faff to copy and paste 1 file in for getting the better IQ from newer dlss versions (at least at the time of hubs dlss vs native video...), people will probably have the same thoughts on using optiscaler too.... ;) :p

Guess we need to change it from "can it run Crysis" to "can it run HL2 RTX". Average 4FPS. I'll take that. :D

Since the games still a demo, we cant modify the video settings, when the official game comes out we will be able to adjust.

Is this game a new game or just old game better graphics?

Thanks

I've not tried 4K yet but DLSS Quality with ultra + FG at 1440p is running ~120FPS on my 4080 Super w/ 14700K with some drops to ~98 FPS, which I was a little surprised at given what I've seen other people getting.

EDIT: 4K is a bit more humbling - 30-35FPS without FG, 60 FPS with FG but it is a long way from a 60FPS experience - while ~120FPS with FG at 1440p feels like an enhanced 60 FPS experience with very little in the way of issues, 60 FPS with FG is quite janky.

I specced my setup around 1440p gaming for the most part with a bit of incidental 4K so I'm OK with that.

AMD issue then,

I forgot to switch the preset to Ultra but even after doing so it's 60fps:

(video might still be processing)

Ignore the following as they are a bug with the newer Nvidia drivers:
- Frametime graph, it's smooth in motion, just the graph doesn't think so
- DLSS status overlay flickering, Nvidia display bug

Never doubt the 12th gen CPUs, they are gaming beasts where AMD fails. Either that or that player has a naffed PC config :p

It actually runs better than I expected lol, feels more polished than Portal RTX but then again Neural Caching and Ray reconstruction did not feature in those RTX Remix releases so that is probably why and neither did the Transformer model exist then.

The demo does randomly crash though which is slightly annoying. Will knock it off as a development/beta bug.

^ 100% of a single core is in use in some instances, the 12th gens were always good with single core performance.

U wot m8, the ALT+X RTX Remix menu is always there in all RTX Remixed games.
