ive got a C2D e6600, 2gb Ram, Geforce 8800 GTS 512mb (G92)

not quite sure whats going on, but i average about 50fps on TF2 with 0 x aa and 0 x AF but max details

this goes as low as 15

is this normal ?

Not normal at all.

I get about 60-100fps with a Q6600 and X1800XT, all on max @ 1440x900.

Tried reinstalling the drivers?

Screen Size?

What drivers are you using?

I can hold a steady 40+ at 1440x900 on my 7800GT with most things at medium/high.

Q6600 @ 3.3ghz and an overclocked 512mb GTS....

Everything maxed out on 1680x1050 I get as low as 50-60 in 10+ models all firing......... usually fps is around 80-300

theres a bug in TF2 since october I think that causes fps to drop for some configurations.

Valve are apparently releasing an update tomorrow (monday) to address this issue.

there is a bug that goes around i even bought new graphics card thinking mine 2900xt was bust but it was not. No idea why this is happening i still get that fps bug on 8800gts. I start the game with good fps like 200 and so on and after 10 min of game play it drops to 30.

When you start the game go into your windows task manager and end the GameOverlayUI process. This de-activates in game steam friends but stopped random fps drops on my high spec system. it helps to some people ;) i think it worked for me but im not sure yet as i found out about it yesterday

im on Vista 32bit and gaming at 1680 x 1050

i have had driver problems with my GTS since i got it

whats the preferred driver for the GTS anybody ?

*edit*

just re-installed the driver that comes with the disc, the one that it seemed to be fine with before i upgrade to 169.25s

anyway, staring straight at a plane wall, with application control set in NV control panel, and in game all AA/AF set to off, i get about 30 fps. Dips to 15 during explosions etc.. ive disabled motion blur as well, just in case that was what was causing it.

thats good, your spec is almost the same as mine, save for clocked a bit higher and faster memory

i guess ill just need to vape my entire steam install and re-install the lot and see how that goes

ok i completely deleted everything from the game folder

but its still the same

wierdly though, it had retained all my graphics settings :( so im guessing they were stored in the registry somewhere. looks like i may have to re-install again and hack the registry,

ok i deleted and uninstalled the drivers, and as theres no free edition of driver cleaner that works on Vista, went through all the registry entries and system files for the nvidia drivers and cleaned them myself

also went hunting in the registry for all the TF2 settings, and deleted all of those, and re-created them. FPS is now a bit higher, but at 1680 x 1050 max settings and 0AA and 0AF im still seeing as low as 30fps

obviously its perfectly playable with an average of 60 and a minimum of 30 as opposed to a minimum of 15, but i still cant help think its lower than it should be. But nobody seems to benchmark TF2

is TF2 more graphically demanding than HL: Episode 1 ? im guessing the fact i play on 32 player servers probably has something to do with it ?

Source engine is not exactly demanding. Turn off V-sync if you have it turned on :)

Suggest it's a conflict or something the developers need to patch.
