If i buy a new copy of this right now, would I be able to get CS Source for free if I bought a physical copy of HL2? Not too sure how this works now!

I think it depends which version you get. I bought the "hoiday collection" and mine doesn't :(

I had the regular DVD and it came with it I think.
same here. I like having something tangible plus it's quicker to install on my home PC from DVD than it is to download it. However I've registered it with Steam so can download it when I'm on a different PC.

half life 2 and counter strike source are separate games.

but if u buy cs:s on retail with cd u get day of defeat source for free

I guess it depends on your connection - Games over Steam download at about 2.2MB/sec for me, making them not *that* much slower than installing from a CD/DVD... Combined with being able to leave the 'installer' running in the background without even noticing it and not having to mess around with physical media, it's definitely preferable to use Steam wherever I can (e.g. whenever the price isn't a rip-off).

I got normal HL2 copy of retail, on back it should say it comes with CSS and HL2: DeathMatch

Can't remember which version I got (it came free with my 9600XT back in the day), but I also got CS:S, HL1, CS, and all the bumf like Opposing Force and Blue Shift.

It doesn't look like Valve do such a package anymore, the only way they do HL2 and CS:S in one package is if you get the $79.99 Source Premier Pack:

Tbh, I'd get the Orange Box and CS:S separately for a total of $59.98, saving a tenner off the Complete Pack
