Half-Life 25th Anniversary Documentary

Yeah HL1 and then HL2 were turning points in gaming for me, so much coolness that many other games merely were able to attempt to do "right" - Valve had a way with storytelling, especially from a protagonist that said nothing, and there were no scripted dialogue options either, The Freeman listens, the Freeman takes action, that is all.
 
Lovely watch this, nice way to spend an hour before bed last night.

I haven't played HL or HL2 since they were new and seeing some of the sights and sounds really emoted me for some reason. I'm gonna get HL downloaded and go on an nostalgia trip tonight. Gaming doesn't feel like the cutting edge achievement like Unreal, Quake, HL etc all gave us back in the day.
 
At this point probably best to wait for Half-Life RTX now as that's set to be superb from what we've seen so far.

Do yourself a favour and play Black Mesa instead :) It captures the HL magic wonderfully, but suited for 2023.
 
I played through Black Mesa and then HL2 last year. Both fantastic games still today.

I still recall playing them both on release and being blown away. Still to this day I don't think any game has had the same impact as the first HL intro
 
Funny that they brought up the walking speed as I always thought it was too fast. I’ve tried to play through HL again a couple of times since it came but the speed always puts me off.
 
Played a demo at my mates house and that convinced me that I needed a PC, a few days later (when the hangover cured) I was in Currys spending £800 on a beige box, wish I knew how to self build then.

I quite quickly got into CS after that which obviously spawned from HL....then came the divorce, I think when she woke up and I was rummaging around in the wardrobe asking her if she had a defuse kit "because it's ******* faster with a kit" was the straw that broke the camels thingummy, 3 days straight playing and the first time I fell asleep I was dreaming about CS too lol.

I'll watch the vid later, I did download HL2 a few years ago, still a blast.

Unrelated but if I write 'Im not Worthy' or 'Im not worthy', at least one of those statements is true.
 
It "spawned" a whole ton of 3rd party mod games, Natural Selection was so good in its day.

I watched the documentary, one thing I noted was they all seemed a bit negative about "Xen" and not in so many words, but basically suggesting it was rushed and not really finished or as intended. I always thought that as well, in fact several times when I replayed the game I basically got as far as Xen and quit.
 
Any news on Half Life 3?

Very disappointed Half Life 3 not released or revealed trailer to celebrated Half Life 25th anniversary just like GTA VI trailer in December to celebrated GTA 25th anniversary. :(
 
That was a good watch, brought back loads of memories. I really liked the Blue Shift expansion too.

Not even hint about HL3 and like you say it would have been a perfect opportunity to announce a date for an announcement about HL3 ala Rockstar. Perhaps they're waiting for another 25 years or if we're lucky the half life of strontium.

You would think the ending of HL Alyx was the strongest hint so far that part three is potentially in the works. Hard to believe we're almost 20 years past the launch of Hl2 and still waiting on the story concluding. :(
