As already said, games like House of the Dead and Time Crisis are on rails as you are unable to move and are literally on rails as your moved through the game. Half Life is a linear FPS.
Half Life 1 has a level called On a Rail.....

Because everyone keeps saying HL3 is coming with the, now delayed, Steam Machine, but I keep half joking that it will be L4D3, because it's a coop game, to annoy everyone.
