Hi. My current GPU is the GTX970. I am looking for a new card to play Half Life Alyx. Not sure to go with the RTX 4070 Ti or 7900XTX. The One thing putting me off going down the 7900XTX is VR problems, have they been fixed or still a problem?. Thank you

If you can pick up something like a 3080 it will run fine, i ran it on a 3090 without any hitches. It was smooth as hell and looked incredible, well worth upgrading to a decent card to play it.

I played Alyx on a 2070 super with no issues whatsoever (and it looked great to me!).

If anything as has already been said.. even if you upgrade your GPU it may be other parts of your system that hold you back.

Hi. My system is 6 months old except the GPU. I have been waiting for prices to go down and see what else is coming out. Alyx is my main goal. But not sure to buy a gpu now or wait until the supers to come out. AMD is tempting just not sure about the VR issues.

I've just watched a playthrough done on a 3080 (maybe Ti) and he had no problems. And it's a totally awesome game.

Prices for the 4090 are rumoured to be increasing. New GPU launches are pretty much done for now, with rumoured refreshes being months off. Intel may release their new Arc Battlemage GPUs early next year or late next year - they apparently have the GPU in their testing labs right now.

Really, just buy the best you can afford and start having fun; there will always be something better 6 - 12 months down the line.

I have a 2070 super and it runs perfectly on high/ultra at 90hz. Card cost me £160 from eBay. A 4070 Ti is massive overkill for Alyx.

There’s a great guide on GPU & CPU requirements for Alyx here:
