i bought half life generation today for £5 from a well known competitor that's just been bought out. after getting home and trying to add it to my main steam account, it came up with a message saying it was already activated, now, what i'm unsure of is what to do now, should i contact valve with pics etc of my boxes and key etc or just take the game back?

I wouldn't be too sure of that. Contacting Valve and telling them your game won't let it be activated they might remove it from the old account if you supply pictures.

ok cheers, wasn's sure if they would bother, i have the games on another account anyway but couldn't get them joined so it always says preloaded for half of my stuff depending which account i'm on.

i had a similar prob with BF2142 becuase of a liar off ebay

ea just got me to fax a copy of the front and back of the manual to them and they sent me a new CD key

yeah I've seen games like WOW and EVE for sale 2nd hand at a couple of shops, like yeah, so you're saying that they are worth ANYTHING without the months sub?

I didn't think you had to use Steam for the original Half Life?
strictly speaking, no, but strictly speaking, i already own the games, and already have them on a steam account, but made a new one upon release of HL2 for some reason, therefore seperating my two worlds...

Take the game back, nothing Valve can do about it, the game is activated and thats it. :(

Good luck on your search.

Not true, contact customer services, send them a photo of the cd and key with yourself if need be! Worked a treat for me!

I got Episode One second hand and had them deactivate the old owner's copy so I could activate it. I didn't even need a receipt - I just sent them a photo of the manual with the key on it.
