Half Life Speedrun with only a crowbar

Parts of the video are definitely speeded up. I had the actual hl ineyes pov of this back in the day and it wasn't anywhere near as fast as that. Notice the lack of "loading" between levels, which to me shows the video has been edited a bit. Still impressive though.

It says at the end there are 190 segments, and that it took 11 months, probably had many goes at each section to get each bit right. Still feels like it's not done properly because they have used a bunny mod.

Even with that mod, try and do the same. Its VERY good, anyway you try approach it.

I remember how insane that old Mario 3 speedrun looked - 11:02 including the credits at the end. A good portion of this one doesn't look real - too fast in places, parts where he really should have died, no falling damage and impossible jumps. I don't buy it.

somebody said its not bunnyhopping, but strafe jumping, bunnyhopping IS strafe jumping, call it what you want, this is definately a bunnyhop script, on an old version, valve patched it out a loooong time ago, this is exactly how we used to play deathmatch and AG, which was a mod that enabled bunnyhopping after patch-out and competition mode for clan matches, its what makes the game in my opinion, gauss and bunnyhopping, insane speeds around the maps and aerial combat, best fps multiplayer I ever played, if you never played AG mod then you never saw what was capable in multiplayer

heres a vid of probably the best player of all time in action

I think the thing that needs to be taken into account, is that absolutely none of these speed runs in hl have been achieved on default or legit settings. Each one has had tweaks or enhancements done to the person's game to make them achieve what they have set out to do. This can be simply changing the mavity of the game with sv_gravity and air acceleration to using scripts which allow the player to achieve things more easily/quickly, to modifying the game to make the game engine to run a certain way. All can be done, without any viewer watching the recorded speed run knowing, unless of course you are familiar with these tweaks yourself. Technically I would say it is cheating. Yes it looks amazing and yes it isn't using something as blatant as noclip mode, where a player can pass through walls, but it still falls into that same territory to me, where the player is getting a substantial amount of help from scripts/tweaks/modifications.

It'd be good to see a legit speed run, without scripts/tweaks/modifications, now that would be interesting.

They do seem to always skip out large sections in these speed run vids. Whilst impressive it does seem to slightly defeat the purpose somewhat.

yep speedruns should be done on skil not scripts and cheats.

skipping sections i;d say is fine so long as it's done legit (hitting object in weird way/jumping etc rather than no clip etc)

This made me play HL source for the first time. Already completed 9 chapters, gameplay is still good even nowadays (considering how old the game is).

Not sure whether it was coincidence or edited, but I liked how at 16:50 as he runs into the dark room, the song ends at just the right moment.

Because of this thread I have now completed HL, HL2 in the last week and now I am buying EP1 and EP2 just to play it again :)

HL2 is still a cracking game.
