Half life2 probs.

Just re-installed the game on the kid's pc, updated steam, etc everything seems fine. When I go to start the game all I get is "preparing to start game" then nothing, I'm staring at me desktop. Any ideas?

If you click Steam -> my games is it still updating there?

Sometimes i find on mine when i reformat, when i double click it will update on the screen but on my games its still going.

Check there, otherwise no idea sorry.

try right clicking hl2 in the "my games list" then properties > local files tab > Verify integrity of game cache.

If none of the above help, it could be firewall issues, check that it's getting the acess it wants.

On mine HL2 wont load unless I add a command line to match the refresh rate of my crt.

'Half-Life 2' > 'Properties' > 'Set launch options...' I add the command -refresh 100 but it might be different for you depending on the res HL2 is trying to launch at, and the refresh rate your monitor runs it at.
