half speed????

just put together my mew system with a E8500 n an P5Q PRO,
CPU-Z is showing the speed at 2ghz instead of 3.16? ive heard of this speedstep but dont realyy understand it, and the cpu doesnt step up when loaded! tryed manually setting the ratio in the bios but still no joy!!!

please help

Use prime or othos to load the CPUs.

speedstep turns down the multiplier to save power.

in cpu-z the multi will be showing as lower than it's maximim (six normally I think?) use something like superpi or orthos, and you'll see that number rise.
