Hmm, just wondering about a new build and was thinking of an FX8120 and Asus M5A99X EVO. Seems to perform near enough the same as a SB 2500k but with more cores for future proofing.

EDIT:yes I know they're not real, real, cores...

Also £££s cheaper than a 2500k with a half decent board, which buys me another 8Gb RAM.
I know its top end AMD against upper mid range Intel, but AMD is cheaper and the performance seems the same.

Not decided whether to build or wait yet, just throwing the thought out there for opinions. I know a screaming oc on a 2500k will beat the 8120, but I'm looking at 4.3-4.4Ghz in a price conscious world.

The 2500K work great no matter what you throw at it. The FX is more 'niche', and its poor IPC doesn't help for gaming. The 2500K is dead easy to overclock, and can be upgraded easily.

And why would you need 16GB? 8GB is plenty and pound for pound, I'd rather have a 2500K (in fact I did).

If you want to save money, then don't bother with 16GB. If you are looking at a similar system to a 2500K, go with 2500K.

If you are looking to save money, don't waste it on 16GB.. 8GB is just fine :-)

Spend the extra on a better graphics card (Yes, seriously).

8 cores on BD seem more like 4 cores tbh.

Don't go AMD for processors... as Scougar and oliver have said it's not worth it. Intel's processors are just far greater. Worth the extra cash over AMD. Id get a 2500k or 3570k (Id go for the 3570k personally.)
