There will be no episode 3, Valve know they could never provide a satisfactory ending to the story and so will try to distract us with new shiney games like L4D3 in the hopes we will forget about Gordan Freeman.
As barmy said it's a complete remake and remains faithful to the plot, the only differance is vastly better graphics and entirely recreated maps, basicaly they have taken the empty, dull areas in HL1 and made them functional.
