Hi Guys

Was going to go to Halfords and get a Parrot kit installed in the wife's car soon, are they good or is it best/cheaper to get an independent guys to do it?

Also is there a good model to go for

Thanks

MKi9200 is the one to go for, it's the top one but by far the best, especially if you want to play music through it too.

Halfords should be fine, the training has been improved the past few years (I work in Halfords fitting these). Not sure on prices of other places unfortunately.

I'd beg to differ, i used Halfords to fit my headlight bulb about 4 months ago, they made a right hash of it, and that's just a lightbulb. The air filter needs to be removed to fit the bulb on the drivers side, they couldn't work out how to get it back on! And you want to trust them with wiring an MKi9200? Good luck lol.

Wouldn't trust halfords as far as I could throw them.

Find a reputable local car audio place and pay them half as much. The hardware will probably cost you a good bit less too

I fitted my Parrot in my Saab, it was easy, didn't attempt it in my A6 though, much more work to do. Plus it has BT anyway, though not DLNA compliant :(

I had an i9200 in my old car to play music through BT. Wasn't very good. Info screen often displayed the wrong thing, then remote control had some horrible lag, you would press forward to skip a song then nothing would happen, so 10 secs later you press again and it would skip 2 tracks about 5 secs later.

Halfrauds will send a spotty "innit" teenager to do the job who will probably end up shorting something and blowing the whole car up. :D Avoid!

Agree with the do it yourself. Mine was done within about 30 minutes in a Polo which needed the special connectors. Although I did have a mate come round and do the wiring correctly so it turned on with the car.

Got mine second hand and saved £100+ on the install.

Far from being an "innit" teenager, but I worked a weekend job at Halfords for a short period. No training given etc at the time I was there (bar being stuck infront of a tv for 20 mins for something iirc), but they expected you to go and work out how to change bulbs and fit headunits etc on the fly with customers cars. Luckily I had an interest in cars so could cope just fine, there were others that could not and did not...

i got the wife the mki9200 and i paid a local place that comes to you to fit it.

so she had it fitted whilst it was parked outside her workplace. that way your not wasting any of your own time or having to take a day off work.

there is no way i would trust halfords to install anything or buy any kit from them unless i had vouchers. they are notorious for poor installs and being overpriced.

it took the guy 2-3 hours maybe more and this guy does them every day it's a huge job installing one in a mini. i think he said there was over 100 screws that needed to be taken out the last time he counted them on a mini. the guy did a fantastic job in placement of the unit, mic and wiring. it's the best system i've ever used or seen in a car much better than the all in one pioneer head units i have bought in the past. i'm now a parrot convert.

it can take 2 devices at the same time so both our phones can be connected.

you can have sat nav and spotify running simultaneously off a phone and the music stops when giving driving instructions. i have seen the cheaper parrot kits in mates cars and they are nowhere near as good as the top end kit.

i had to buy an iso lead but i got one off a specialist mini site where the guy reversed the bass to the 6x9's yet retained voice output to the front speakers. the custom wire cost a lot of money but was well worth it the stock speakers sound fantastic with this mod, whereas before they sounded terrible i was thinking of replacing them. if anyone has a mini they must reverse the bass to the 6x9's instead of the front components.

sounds like it was faulty, bad install, needed a firmware update or you had a flat battery in the remote. not had any of these issues.

I applied for a job at Halford's parts desk once. Didn't get it - apparently because I knew more about cars than the desk manager he didn't want to put his job in jeopardy

I wouldn't trust Halfords to screw on a valve cap.

Let's not even begin on Kwik Fit. Boils my blood just thinking about them.

Green tea time.
