My ford focus 01 plate is in need of a service and mot. I live and work in Manchester city centre hence would prefer a local garage. The ones I've seen don't look like a professional outfit however I've seen halfords is near the Apollo and can do a service and mot for 150. Are they any good or can someone recommend a decent garage near ancoats?

Your car will not be an 01 plate as it doesn't exist. I wouldn't take my car to Halfrauds for a service or MOT at all. I've no idea where to suggest in Manchester though.

Ask around, work collegues etc... Halfords could probably do it but you run the risk of being bent over for the pleasure

Dont be fooled by grooty little garages that look grimy. A garage that is too clean has people cleaning too much and not fixing cars which means they are not busy....why ??

As above ask colleagues.

Had a mot there recently .. very stringent (anal tbh) And while i was there i i was listening to the sales guys quoting for work after failed mots .

clio required a track rod end .. quote was £179 for the part .. now given i do all my own mechanics and had just done a pair of track rod ends on my mondeo for £12 . Her total bill for work on her clio was just shy of £1200 .

So by all means get it mot'ed but dont get them to do any work !!

What a ridiculous comment. The best garage I have used also was the cleanest I have seen.

if you can try and use the council run mot centers, that do the buses or taxis ect, many people report they are less likely to find something wrong with you motor.
