Hi guys,

I've just noticed that my Halfords breaker bar, which has been sat in my boot for the last month is missing the locating pin for the pivot end.

I've had it over 12 months and there's no chance I will have kept the receipt. Does anyone know if the "lifetime guarantee" tools can be returned/replaced without a receipt?

Cheers.

If you paid by card, all you will need to produce is a bank statment showing payment to Halfords. If you paid by cash, just be polite and pray.

Lifetime guarantee doesnt cover you losing a bit.
Check you boot and you probably find it there, it will just screw back in.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I thought it'd be good to update it just in case anyone else was in the same boat.

Took it back and explained what had happened, said I had no receipt and they changed it, no questions asked :)

I took some Torx bits in on February the 19th, still don't have them back, so 3 days ago I sent a letter off to Halfords HQ. Let's see what happens :(

Did you speak to the store manager? Was probably some dumn part time worker who didnt leave a decent enough note for stuff to get done.

Torx bits, sockets etc even the ones from the sets can be changed really easily. If a 15mm socket from a set breaks just take one from the shelf.....and send the broken one back on the one from the shelfs label as FAGO.

Our store does it no questions asked unless a snapped 1/2 breaker bar has scratches around where they have used a pipe to use more leverage.

Have just swapped things straight for me, although i doubt they will replace the 1/4" rachet with a super slack mechanism after using a 2 foot extension on it.....

He's said that they were waiting for a change in warehouse the few times i've asked what's going on. There was also a massive list of other customers who were waiting for replacements.

it clearly states in store that certain things are not covered by the lifetime warranty, ratchets being one of them.

Well they are either doing things by the book(usually long and stupid) or they are talking crap.

My manager would rather replace your bits with ones from the shelf which realisticly cost halfords pennies to get....and will be warrantied anyway when the old bit is sent back than face loosing £50 from the budger for each complaint letter to head office.

(although my manager changed some figures for the stock take and cant even mark me as on holiday on the rota  )
