...seems rather cheap?

Picked up a small chip on the Yaris windscreen on Friday driving down a country road and the car in front spitting out a bit of gravel. (First time in over 40 years of driving, usually they bounce off). Small hole on the passenger side top left so don't want to go through insurance.

Not that many places that actually do windscreen repairs at least not round Swindon, but amazed at the price discrepancy. Autoglass list their standard callout/repair charege as £225. Halfords is £40. The downside of Halfords is that they can't book it in untl 8th February but for now I've gone with that option.

Just wondered though if anyone has had this type of repair done at Halfords, is there any hidden catch? Such as deciding when you arrive the repair is more complex and chinging more money out of you, or do an inferior job? I'm guessing Autoglass are expensive because they sniff around the insurance companies and/or are there pretty much ASAP.

You pay for windscreen cover as part of your insurance premium for a reason.

You’re also getting someone who’s regularly trained. Trusting Halfords to change a bulb would be hard enough

Presumably Halfords are competing with the cost of an excess for those who do not have excess free chip cover on their windscreen cover.

I too would get it done on my insurance by someone who does it every day. The guy who did mine was a nice chap, he and his wife were foster carers and he was happy to answer my windscreen chip question while I chatted with (observed him working on my car) him.
