Hoping for some guidance on how to decorate our hallway. We’re just about wrapping up our extension work and the only thing left to do is the hallway which we have been deliberately putting off.

Here’s the problem we have 2 dogs which get walked whatever the weather. I dry them off with towels before they come through the door, however they still shake excess water off which then sprays little speckles of water onto the wall. It’s probably going to need reskimming so vinyl paint is out of the question, apart from wallpaper does anyone have any ideas or previous experience with anything similar.

We’ve been putting this off for about 3 years by making various excuses, we’ve now run out of excuses …..:p

Neighbour put large tiles either side down the hallway due to having two large hunting dogs.

Works really well.

Struggling to visualise how tiles would work but I'll do some googling. Wipeable paint would be my preferred option, however it will almost certainly need reskimming so from my understanding this rules out any type of painting except contract emulsion. Wood paneling is a non starter from the wife :p

Why would reskimming rule out any other paint options. Surely you just paint it with cheap emulsion to give it a surface and then paint your decent washable stuff on top.

+1 for the washable paint too, we did our kitchen with it, and having had the boiler replaced recently there was a load of dirty marks left on the wall which wiped off nicely.

I've used Earthborn products before, specifically their claypaint. This, combined with their 'Wall Glaze' will do what you need it to do whilst remaining vinyl free and thus breathable.
It's not particulary cheap, but I applied this combo to our boot room (where I towel down our dogs - and is thus a used and abused area) 6 years ago and it still looks pretty good.

For context, our walls are lime plaster so anything we apply to them needs to be breathable.

I thought (wrongly?) fresh plaster needed breathable paint to allow moisture to escape or you had to wait several weeks until it completely dry? https://www.mybuilder.com/questions/v/7738/how-long-before-painting-on-newly-skimmed-walls and multiple other posts saying the same thing thing.

I'd over the moon if I'm wrong, ideal solution would be washable paint.

Crikey @Jimmeh you're not kidding about the price! It's an option though, one more than I had before making this thread - thanks.

Based on what you're saying, what I reccomended is overkill.

If it's normal gypsum plaster, it does need to be left a while. Probably 2-3 weeks although the longer the better. It's not the end of the world if you don't, but you do risk flaking if you paint too soon.
A mist coat tends to help with this.

I'd personally wait a couple of weeks from when it was re-plastered, apply a mist coat, then a primer, and then your chosen wipeable/washable emulsion paint.
