Hi,
does anyone know yet if the new Halo 3: ODSTgame will be like halo wars? or will it be like the halo 3 a shooter?

Thinking about pre-ordering it.

Its a large Add-on for halo 3. Its on 2 discs:

1: Halo ODST campaign and fire fight mode (Kinda like horde/nazi zombies)
2: Halo 3 multiplayer, contains all the halo 3 maps on this disc. Its the same as halo 3 but there is no campaign on the disc. So it has all the same features. Might want to check out:

http://www.bungie.net/Projects/ODST/default.aspx
http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halo_3:_ODST (Has all of the major videos at the bottom)

Can be had for 30 quid pre-ordered. If you pre-order you get halo reach multilayer beta access and an unlock able Sergeant Johnson Character for use in fire fight mode.(only from certain retailers) :)

I dont know why, but just from the title I assumed it would be like Halo Wars. Not sure why but thats the way my brain interpreted it and up until last week I hadn't paid any attention to it. The ODST triggers RTS and also OST (Even when I know its going to be nothing to do with a soundtrack) to me.

Watched a video on the marketplace when I was bored and actually realised I will be interested in this.

It's set in the Halo universe but you view the lives of 6 (or maybe 7) Spartan warriors.

its a First Person shooter.

it's looking better than Halo 3 imo.

It's set during Halo 2. When the Covenant attacks Earth one Carrier makes it through the defenses and down to the surface. In Halo 2 Master Chiefs' objective is to board the Carrier and capture the Prophet of Regret so that they can find out what he's come to Earth for. He came for the same reason they did in Halo 3 (to find and activate the Ark), but what he didn't know was that Earth was actually Humanities home world, which is why he came with such a small fleet (in comparison to other human colonies that have been attacked by the covenant in the past). Because Regret came with a small fleet humanity was able to withstand the attack (just barely).

Before Master Chief can get close to the carrier it starts to jump away to another Halo installation - This is where Halo 3 ODST begins.

Also ODSTs are not Spartans, they are an elite force (but still just regular humans). You won't even see another Spartan in the game unless Master Chief makes some sort of Cameo appearance.

Halopedia said:
The Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODST) are an elite group of UNSC Marines that specialize in special warfare tactics. Their method of infiltration by orbital drop allows them to conduct missions against targets that other conventional forces cannot approach undetected.

I'm bored so I'll wax on a bit too...

I'm looking forward to ODST a fair bit, as I'm a cheap ass I never bought legendary/mythic map packs and am looking forward to playing on them in the ODST multiplayer, hopefully playing the new playlists and maps will relieve some of the frustration that's been building. Seriously I'm surprised the neighbours didn't come a knockin' tonight and ask what all the swearing was about.

Other than that the campaign looks at least fun but the... errr... Horde rip off mode should be really fun, just like the fun I had in horde on GOW2. Will be nice to break up multiplayer sessions with some AI blasting.

Oh and of course, reach beta... Whatever that is.

It's Bungies next and last Halo FPS apparently.

It takes place right before Halo 1 and probably over laps with it on the timeline. The Beta is for the MP portion of the game (or I just fail at internet sarcasm, but its there if others were wondering).

Bungie is also mean't to be working on new IP's aswell, but I think those have been put on hold to get ODST and Reach finished, since Bungies seperation deal with Microsoft was that they had to make 2 more Halo games (ODST and Reach) for them then they are free to do as they please i.e their next new IP will be multi-platform with a new publisher.

I don't see the split from Microsoft doing Bungie any favours really. Can't see them amounting to much without Microsoft pushing their games as the flagship of their platform. I'd like to be proven wrong though and you know any releases with be prefaced with "From the makers of Halo".

The reason for the split we can only guess at, but more then likely it was down to them getting sick of making nothing but Halo for Microsoft. Also their games were breaking pre-order and sales records and the majority of those profits were going in Microsofts pockets thanks to Bungies hard work.

You can argue all day that Halo made the Xbox what it is or that if it wasn't for the Xbox Halo would have just been another FPS, but IMO they owe their success to each other.

I think it was Kreeeee who said that he was curious to see what Bungie could accomplish when not being constricted by the Halo IP and when I think about it I agree. Feature wise they get it spot on with co-op, saved films, forge, stat tracking on Bungie.net, endless customization and tweaking of gametypes etc, but when it comes to the actual gameplay there seems to be something wrong in each game. Halo 2 had the button glitches and super jumps and Halo 3 is just plain **** :p

FYI "win" is three letters :P

Halo CE was a fantastic game, marred only by some repetitive level design here and there. Halo 2 whilst fun never really hit the same spot and I never got into the multiplayer, Halo 3 however was kinda ok singleplayer and I really got into the multiplayer.

The problem for me was that Halo CE was so good when it came out graphics wise, weapon variety, open levels with great vehicles and most of all an epic story line full of twists and fantastic music. I played Halo CE multiplayer fanatically over XBC and me and saint had some epic times.

Halo 2 improved the graphics quite a bit, but the story for the most part was lacklustre and did not have the same punch as "omg flood and omg superweapons" it also didn't have the best levels to play in, not as much open level vehicle fun, more of the "follow this road" type events. Multiplayer was obviously fantastic but for me focussed too much on hectic death match type gameplay, I loved being tactical on Halo CE's large multiplayer maps but Halo 2 didn't seem to offer as much of that.

Halo 3, well graphically the game looks nice but they were a little dissapointing, don't get me wrong, I love the graphics, but technically they're not as astounding as Halo CE's was at the time. There are all these little fantastic graphical touches that you never notice though, like the water effects, pretty brilliant and the fact that the ammo counter on the weapon actually reflects the bullets left in the clip even when you're looking at someone else's weapon, or it's on the floor, completely useless but a great insight into the depth of the engine. As I got crackdown I was on the Halo 3 beta and it hit the sweetspot for me, saint was coming round every night till the wee hours playing the 3 (imo) best maps. Back to more open world vehicle massacres etc... Singleplayer story was ok, but again lacked any punch.

And that is my Halo life lol I don't know why I just wrote all that.

I tend to agree. IMO Halo 3 is what 2 should have been, 2 should simply never have gone gold. The first game was epic in all ways, its a shame the story was ruined in the sequels.

Does anyone know if ODST has the same engine/physics? As I prefer Halo 2's one as it feels smooth, whereas Halo 3 is more clunky.
