Hello,

I found Halo to be one of the most painful, boring, repetitive (single player) gaming experiences of my life. The glowing reviews shook my confidence in humanity, and I still have nightmares of that copy & paste level where I was fleeing the flood(?).

However, I find myself being sucked in by the Halo 3 hype monster, it certainly looks fancy. If I were to do the dirty and buy Halo 3, then I feel I should play through Halo 2 first, but given the above I am somewhat reluctant.

Is there anyone else who feels the same way about Halo 1 as me? and if so did you like the Halo 2 single player? or was it more nightmare-inducing mediocrity?

Thanks :)

I do agree that "The Library" (that flood level) was a pain in the face, although second time through it's not nearly as painful.

I'm one of the few strange individuals that actually preferred the H2 campaign to the first. I should warn you that I am very much in the minority though!

It's not a big secret that part way through you switch characters to control "The Arbiter", a disgraced Covenant Elite. I found this angle, seeing the Covenant from the other side, pretty interesting.

Most people will say that H2 is all about multi anyway, although I only played it recently myself in preparation for H3. It is very, very good (in console terms). Be prepared to be completely trashed unless you play with friends though.

You can likely get H2 for less than a tenner. If you're definitely getting 3, I'd say get 2 and see what you think.

I'm not really a fan of Halo 1 at all as I grew up with Goldeneye / Half Life etc but I'm willing to give Halo 3 a shot if only for coop. I haven't and feel no need to play Halo 2 though as from what I can gather its just more of the same.

Just started playing Halo 1 in co-op mode with a mate last night. Man I cannot belive how crap those graphics are :D. Its reminds me of the days of the 007 game on the N64 lol. Used to think, when it came out.. Wooooahhh these graphics are awsome lol.

I think Halo1 was one of the finest gaming experiences i've ever had.

I had just bought a new TV and it was the first game where i could use my 5.1 setup.I can remember sliding to a stop in the warhog near the edge of a cliff whilst the guy on the chain-gun was firing at the enemy, and my jaw just dropped. The physics, graphics and sound.

I thought Halo2 was good but it didn't have the same effect as 1 did.

It is up there with Goldeneye and HL imo.

I hope people who didn't like the first Halo don't buy H3.It will just wind me up reading the usual moaners on here slagging it off.

Trust me I wouldn't be laying down 30/40 quid If I didn't think I'd like it! :)

I haven't read that much about it but I gather they have taken a lot more time over this one than Halo 2. I didn't think the first one was bad just very average. I'm sure with a few new ideas and the 360's graphics it will be top shelf.

Thanks for the replies :)

I think I will give Halo 2 and 3 a miss - 'more of the same' is certainly not what I wanted to hear. I think I will finish off getting 'Seriously...' on Gears and pick up the Oblivion GoTY edition until Mass Effect appears.

It genuinely confuses me that you (and many others) put Halo up there with Goldeneye and Half Life. Games that I still play to this day. Oh well :)

Thanks again.

Halo 1 was revolutionary in so many ways, graphics, expansive levels, vehicles, AI, physics, characters and most importantly, Co-Op mode. On top of those it had brilliant multiplayer and a superb storyline as well as what is still the best soundtrack to a video game, just hearing the first few chords gets me going.

Halo 2 wasn't as good, however it maintained the story, expanding on what we knew. It also had very good AI and a top sountrack, however it didn't revolutionised where the first one did (because it's hard to do it twice, especially when you got so much right the first time). It added dual wielding and one of the most popular online multiplayer modes on a game on ANY format, including PC.

The 3rd one promises so much, they've no rushed it (they admitted to rushing Halo2), adding bigger and better visuals, spanning vista's, awesome AI, a finer storyline, more music and best of all, really expanding on the multiplayer side which promises to be the most popular of any console online multiplayer ever.

Halo 3 is so hyped for good reason, it's following in the foundations of greatness.

Did you play it on the xbox or PC?

Did you play it on Heroic/Legendary or normal/easy?

How many years was Halo 3 in development? Cause it feels rushed by my timescale... I can't believe its out in a few weeks!

I remember the wait for Halo 2 took aaaaggeessss

3 Years i think.

And i know what you mean,it does feel to have been sprung upon us.

Halo 3 will boast one of the best multi-player experiences on the 360. Personally I'd buy it for that alone, it just happens that I really enjoy the story and can't wait to finish the fight.

Oh yeah Halo PC was an abomination.

Funny thing is that i remember on my bros old xbox playing halo and i wasnt that impressed then he got halo2 and again i didnt find it all that inspiring. Although i have to admit i was never much a console gamer till the 360 came out, now i cant get enough of it.
Hmmm well ive pre-ordered the £70 edition of Halo3 with the helmet:p....im hoping ill like it tbh and from what ive seen ie previews etc...it does look nice. Just a shame i never really got into halo and halo2 but as i said its only since i got hte 360 that ive found myself gaming more...before the 360 i couldnt give a toss about console gaming.
