Halo where should i start

Could you put the novels in order for me please:)



Also i played a little bit of Halo (pc) and its a bit dated but im enjoying it so far. Back when i first got the game i must have finished 3-4 times and played the mp to death.
 
I recently started trying to play through the old halo games. I really enjoyed halo, until the flood sections. I gave up on the level where you back track through previous played parts. That bored me and I gave up. Granted the game is years old now and I would have liked it 400 years ago when it was released.

Chronologically in terms of the story

Contact Harvest - (First encounter of Covenant)
Cole Protocol
Fall of Reach
The Flood
First Strike
Ghosts of Onyx

I think that's right, I may be wrong. I'm going from memory. There is quite a bit of story overlap too.

think its right except i believe first strike was set before installation 04 (the flood), but other than that i think its spot on :)
 
Right just finished the first halo, i have to say it was average. I remember playing it when it first came out the game was awesome.
Anyway ill make a start on halo 2 tomorrow, cant wait to see how the story comes along.
 
Kind of doing the same.
Finished the audio book of Reach which i really enjoyed, (learning about the Spartan 2 project, John 117 etc) now going through Halo 1. (works on the 360 btw)
Loads in the game that i forgot but i'm understanding the story more now. Think i'm close to the end, then to play through 2.
 
Just finished halo 3 what a game and what an ending.
Gonna make a start on ODST and i should imagine it wont take too long and hopefully be done before Reach comes out.
 
In response to the original question, it's quite interesting. Do you play them in the order they were released or in chronological order of the story?

There's a case for both sides, either you follow the story or play them how everybody else did and see how they've progressed over the years... i'd have said the former, but i can see why not.

Anyway, on Halo Wars, it's a great game that's worth playing just for the story, i love having these games to fill in on the side story, and move it away from the Master Chief who really i think was just a character designed to sell the game, not to tell the story. He would be okay if he talked a bit more...

Halo 1 on the PC is great, there's still a thriving community and you get the Custom Edition which has some pretty freaky goings on. H2V... meh, i think it needs a controller really.

Think i'm missing a few of the novels, could someone fill me in please?
