Hamachi, still can't join a Battle!

Me and a friend are trying to connect our PC’s and play Total Annihilation, we are using Hamachi but are still having problems! We can ping each other (in Hamachi) and have granted exceptions in Vista’s Firewall...still can’t connect, well we can connect, but the PC hangs when we try and join a battle this is the same no matter who sets up the game etc. the game can been seen, but hitting join crashes the game.

Anyone have any experience similar to this?

Had a similar experience with Hamachi and Company of Heroes. 1.0.1.5 worked better than the newer versions, but in the end that stopped working too.

We now just play over a standard Windows VPN, or by opening ports in my router
